Lewis Coleman Wilson
 Lewis Coleman Wilson of Bradford Place, Wilson, North Carolina, died on Monday, February 27, 2012, at Wilson Medical Center. 

He was born on February 6, 1925 in Sylva, North Carolina, son of the late Thomas Oscar Wilson and Luetta Buchanan Wilson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas O. Wilson, Joseph F. Wilson, William O. Wilson, and sisters Margaret Wilson Henson and Lucille Wilson.

Mr. Wilson served in the Army Air Force in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1946, graduated from Western Carolina University in 1949, and then began a career in banking.  During his professional career, he lived in Shelby, Raleigh, and Wilson where he retired from Branch Banking and Trust in 1989. He served as chairman of the Red Cross, Shelby Chapter for many years, was a founding member of the Habitat for Humanity, Wilson Chapter, and participated in the building of 11 of the 13 houses built in Wilson, and regularly volunteered at the soup kitchen supported by the local Episcopal Church.  He attended the First United Methodist Church of Wilson and was an active member of the Bradshaw Sunday School Class.

Surviving are his wife, Christine “Chris” Rucker Wilson, daughters Shannon Christine Wilson of Morehead City and Mary “Cindy” Wilson Heacox and husband, Frank Wesley Heacox of Wilson, two granddaughters, Spencer Heacox Melton and her husband, Patrick Oliver Melton, of Charlotte, and Susan Heacox Hitt and her husband, John David Hitt of Wilmington, and a great-granddaughter Sydney Elaine Melton of Charlotte, two sisters, Polly Wilson Williams of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and Rebecca Wilson Davis of Waynesville, North Carolina.

Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1423, Wilson, NC 27894 or to Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 1973 Wilson, NC 27894.

Arrangements are by Wilson Memorial Service, Wilson, NC and Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home, Shelby, NC.

Graveside services will be held at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby on Thursday, March 1st, at 2:00pm.  After the internment the family will receive friends and relatives at a reception at the home of Will and Tina Rucker.
