Mrs. Lucy Greene Bowen, 85, of Shelby died on Saturday January 15, 2011, at Hospice of Wendover.  A native of Cleveland County, she was preceded in death by her parents D.L. and Lola Greene.  Mrs. Bowen is also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, George Newton Bowen; five sisters, Etta Greene, Carey Blanton, Beuna Porter, Lourene Davis, Mary Ada Greene; one great grandson, Joshua Bowen.  Mrs. Bowen was a clerk for F. W. Woolworth for 19 years.  She enjoyed cooking, canning and helping her husband in the garden.

Mrs. Bowen is survived by her son, Randell Bowen wife Pat of Shelby; two daughters, Judy McElrath husband Dean of Black Mountain and Sherry Justice husband Ricky of Shelby; six grandchildren, David Bowen wife Kathy; Tracie Wray husband Jeff; Jenny Johnson husband Tim; Clint McElrath; Jason Justice wife Stephanie, Casey Justice wife Amber; six great grandchildren, Megan Wray, Amber Wray, Sarah Bowen, Keira Johnson, Haley Justice, Brandon Justice.

The funeral service will be held at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church at 4:00PM on Tuesday, January 18, 2011.  Dr. Eric Davis and Dr. J. M. Ezell will be officiating.  Burial will be immediately following in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30PM on Monday, January 17, 2011 at Cecil M Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.  At other times the family will be at the home of Randell and Pat Bowen, 928 Forest Ridge Drive, Shelby NC.
