Lula Waddell McSwain

Lula Waddell McSwain, 93 of Earl, N.C., passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013 at Wendover Hospice House.  Born July 20, 1919, in Spartanburg County, S.C., she was the widow of the late Walter Cleve McSwain and daughter of the late Talmadge and Virginia Wyatt Waddell.  After her Mother’s death, her father remarried Esmer Wall Waddell.  Mrs. Lula was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church where she taught the 2 and 3 year old children for over 50 years.  One of her greatest joys was working in her yard and flowers.

 

Her survivors include her daughters, Patricia M. McDaniel and husband Eddie and Virginia M. McDaniel and husband Ferman, all of Gaffney, S.C.  She was also blessed with a granddaughter, Anita McDaniel Blackwood and husband Andy of Gaffney, S.C.; and grandson, Marcus Davis and wife Kristen of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; two great-grandchildren Daniel and Andrea Blackwood of Gaffney, S.C..  Also surviving are brothers, Charles Waddell of Cowpens, S.C. and Robert Waddell of Boiling Springs, S.C.; sisters, Ovellia Waddell Hawkins Fowler, Lois Waddell Beam, and Elizabeth Waddell Crocker of Gaffney, S.C., Anne Waddell Jones of Spartanburg, S.C., Carol Waddell Jordon of Monroe, N. C., Pauline Waddell Howell of Wingate, N.C., sisters-in-law, Clara McSwain Earle of Kings Mountain, N.C., Barbara Waddell and Annie Sue Waddell of Spartanburg, S.C.; and a great number of nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Lula was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty McSwain Davis, brothers, Howard, Jerry, Elbert, Hoyt, Troy and Harold Waddell and sisters Frances Gardner White, Lucille Gilbert, Doris Phillips.

 

Services will be held at 3:00pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelby, N.C. on Thursday, January 17, 2013 with Dr. Clyde P. Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home.  At other times the family will be at their respective homes.

 

The family respectfully requests that memorials be made to New Hope Baptist Church, Preschool 2 and 3 year old Sunday School Class, P. O. Box 116, Earl, North Carolina, 28038.
