Lyle Randolph Gash

Mr. Lyle Randolph Gash, 24, of 110 Pine Forest Drive Kingstown, NC departed this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Hospice House in Kings Mountain.  He was born on February 20, 1989 in Cleveland County, NC to Paul and Ramona Lynch Gash.

Lyle attended North Shelby School, Shelby, NC. He was a decorated athlete with Special Olympics. He served as Honorary Jr. Deacon for Palmer Grove Baptist Church. Lyle possessed a strong love for gospel music and dance “Michael Jackson”.

Lyle loved and cherished his family with all his heart and was the center of attention at family gatherings. He reveled in teasing, joking, and laughing with his cousins. Lyle loved road trips to basketball games, family vacations, family talent shows, and special overnight outings with his parents. His most precious moments were those times spent with his Mom, Dad and Brother. Lyle loved to lead the family in prayer. He would pray specifically for each member and anyone else he could think of at the time, especially Pastor Smith and his family.

He was small in stature with a BIG personality. Lyle had a knack of assigning nicknames like Buddy, Big Brother, Kobe, Shaq, Old Guy, Obama, Rasheed Wallace, Snake, Steve Harvey, Big Head, June Bug, Doctor, Bran-Cullah, Bart Simpson and Bernie Mac to special people in his life. He loved the ladies and the ladies loved Lyle. His favorite basketball team was the Gardner-Webb Running Bulldogs. He liked game cards, movies, stylish clothing, participating in weddings, putting together puzzles, and racing Uncle Charles in his golf cart.

Lyle always wanted his birthday celebration to be a grand event, because every day of Lyle’s life was a win against the odds.  He lived twenty-four years past the prediction at birth. Although he  lived with a constant battle of health adversities, he never complained.

His greatest love was for the Lord.  He attended church and other functions until his health no longer allowed.  He had a gift of worship often expressed in running praise laps around the church pews. He was known for waving his hands when worshipping, as well as, encouraging others to get up and praise God. Even during his illness, Lyle would minister to visitors who came to his home by praying for them before leaving.

He was truly an inspiration to everyone he met and those he never met. This was none the more evident in the “The Cards for Lyle Ministry”.  Lyle took great comfort and strength from the 20,000 plus cards he received from around the world. Lyle’s journey - he fought the good fight, he finished the race and kept the faith.  His reward – he’s now resting in the arms of Jesus.

Lyle was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Gardner and Ruth Mae Lynch and paternal grandparents, Russell and Odessa Gash.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted parents Paul and Ramona Gash, two brothers, Christopher Gash and wife Sharice of Kingstown and Brison Logan and his wife Regima of Forest City, NC; his cousin who was like a sister, Jermica Walker of Shelby; his aunts and uncles, Dianne McCullough, Dorothy Jolly, Janet Gerald, Julie Lynch, Renee Lynce and Charles Lynch (Shirley) all of Kingstown; Nancy Gash Ruby Gash, Angel Gash, Steve Gash, Donald Gash, James Gash and Bruce Gash (Cassandra) all of Shelby and Charlene Gash of Lawndale, NC and a host of other family and friends.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Cleveland County, WBTV News,  The Shelby Star, Gardner-Webb Men’s Basketball Program, Burns High School and all other participating schools, churches, civic organizations, businesses, and individuals for sending cards to Lyle’s Card Ministry.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Palmer Grover Baptist Church with Pastor James L. Smith officiating.  Burial will take place at the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM at the church on Saturday.  Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloes.net.  Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
