Mabel Jones Elliott, 99, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. A native of Cleveland County she was the daughter of the late Foster Yates and Alice Poston Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband O. Paxton Elliott; step-daughter Libby Elliott; a brother; J. Y. Jones; four sisters, Tillie Jones Price, Doris Jones Elliott, Nellena Jones Loy, and Stella Jones Wright. Mabel was a graduate of Boiling Springs Junior College which is now Gardner-Webb University. She worked for First National Bank of Shelby for many years as the executive assistant to George Blanton, Jr. the President of the bank and later chairman. Mabel was a long time member of Central United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Elliott is survived by a sister, Margaret Jones Blanton and husband Claude of Wilmington, NC and one cousin, Frances Beatty of Hickory, NC.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30pm on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Sunset Cemetery. The Rev. Craig Langston will be officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
The family would like to give a special “thank you” to her caregiver, Shirley Edwards, for the loving care and support.
Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.
