Macqueline “Mackie” Strong Jennings
On Saturday, June 8, 2013, the gentle voice of our Savior called to Macqueline “Mackie” Strong Jennings, age 65.  After enduring a lingering illness, she answered His call and was welcomed to her new home in Heaven.

Born November 16, 1947 in Cleveland County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Walter Monroe and Corrine Carson Strong.

During her early years, Mackie attended and graduated from Camp High School. After graduating, she worked at Mooney Hosiery Mills and Fiber Industries.  After being laid off from Fiber, she took a job at Timken in Gaffney, SC where she would work for 25 years before retiring.  While working at Mooney Hosiery Mills, she met a young man named Johnny Jennings “Paw Paw”.  After dating for a while, they were united on April 18, 1969.  Together they raised their daughter, Dezi and two sons, Johnny, Jr. and Gabriel.

Mackie attended New Ellis Chapel Baptist Church and was a proud member.  Her pastimes included gardening and she especially loved flowers.  She would be given flowers so that she could nurse them back to full health.  She was also known for her practical jokes and scare tactics on kids, which are still talked about today.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Johnny Jennings, Jr.

Left to celebrate her life and cherish her loving memories are her husband, Johnny Jennings; a daughter, Dezi Strong (fiancé, Tony) and Gabriel Jennings (Tanisha) both of Shelby; a step-daughter, Kimberly Ashley (Mark) of Las Vegas, NV; six brothers, James Gill (Vickie) of CA, Walter Strong, Jr. (Hiawatha) of Shelby, Ricky Strong (Kay) of AZ, Darrell Woods (Annette), Deion Woods and Fabion Woods all of Shelby; five sisters, her twin, Jacqueline Roberts (James) of Grover, NC, Eura Bell (Cleophus) of NJ, Barbara Accor (Douglas) and Geraldine Barnett (Chucky) both of Shelby and Mary Roseboro of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, Reeana Bennett of Gastonia, NC, DeShaun Ashley, Quan Ashley both of Las Vegas, NV, Yasmen Jennings, Isaiah Jennings, Carmen Jennings, Nadia Jennings and Stephon Bethune all of Shelby; two great-grandchildren, Brenia and Danté Bennett of Gastonia, NC; two aunts, Betty Sue Carson and Jennie Eskridge Bell both of Shelby; a great-aunt, Annie Steele of Washington, DC; her best friend, Gwendolyn Dawkins of Gaffney, SC, her extended family, the Jennings and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM at New Ellis Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Albert Ponder officiating.  Burial will take place at Webb Memorial Lawns.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:00 PM at the church on Saturday.
