Malcom Eugene “Gene” Wilson

Malcom Eugene “Gene” Wilson, age 79 died Thursday September 19, 2013 at his home. Born on October 14, 1933, in Cleveland County he was the son of the late Malcom and Leila Crowder Wilson. Gene was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church and attended Hoey United Methodist Church. He served in the Army during the Korean War, and worked for the Department of Transportation as a road inspector. Gene was always active doing something and usually for someone else. He was a natural caregiver always helping others.

Gene is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jewell Strickland Wilson, a daughter, Joy Ellis and husband Mike of Shelby; a brother, Robert “Bill” Wilson and wife Shelva Jean of Lattimore; a sister, Margaret Walker of Elkin; two grandchildren, Jordan Ellis and Lyndsey Ellis, who was also his caregiver; three great grandchildren, Madison Ellis, Braylyn Hoyle, and Brooklyn Hoyle; and special nieces, Donna Wilson, Debbie Bridges and husband Eddie, Denise Rankin and husband David, and DeeDee Canipe and husband Derrick.

Funeral services will be held on Monday September 23, 2013 at 11:00am in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Priscilla Walker officiating.. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park with Military Honors. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 10:00am until 11:00am

Since 1982 Gene gave every monthly contribution to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and in honor of his giving nature the family wishes for memorials to be sent to;  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105
