Margaret Goodman, retired real estate broker in Cleveland County, died Monday, February 16, 2015.
She was one of the first women to enter the field of real estate in Cleveland County and the second woman to become a member of the Cleveland County Association of Realtors where she served in many capacities, including president, vice president and secretary/treasurer. She chaired both the professional standards and educational committees, was instrumental in forming the first multiple listing service for Cleveland County, and establishing a college scholarship fund for Cleveland County high school seniors honoring the late C.M. Peeler and Oliver Anthony, Jr. In 1990, her peers voted her realtor of the year.
Mrs. Goodman was owner and president of Goodman/Edwards Real Estate, Inc. and was later associated as a broker with Coldwell Banker until her retirement. She was the wife of the late Charles Richard Goodman of Asheville, NC and the daughter of the late Marcus Carl Putnam and Lula Hord Putnam of Shelby.
Surviving are one daughter, Jo Goodman Bralley and her husband Gaylord Van Bralley of Shelby, two grand daughters, Meg Bralley Vercio of Shelby and Becca Bralley Gorham and her husband, Walker Gorham of Atlanta Georgia, and two great grand daughters, Elizabeth Jo Vercio and Rebecca Kate Vercio.
Mrs. Goodman was a member of First Baptist Church where she served on the Budget and Finance Committee and chaired the Property Committee for many years. She was a Shelby High graduate and majored in business at Mars Hill College. She was a member of the Junior Charity League, Civitan Club and was on the first Board of Directors for the Girls Club of Shelby.
The family will receive friends in the Ladies Parlor of First Baptist Church from 10:30 to 11:30 on Friday, February 20th. A celebration of life service will follow at 11:30 in the church's Webb Chapel.
