Margaret Louise Whitaker Wood, age 90 died Friday May 1, 2015 at Kings Mountain Hospice. Born in Cleveland County on February 13, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Jesse Ezell Whitaker. Margaret was a member of First Baptist Church where she was active in the Faith and Love Sunday school class, volunteered in the office, enjoyed traveling with the church, and formerly taught a children's Sunday school class. Margaret was member of a craft club, volunteered for Hospice and at the front desk at Cleveland Regional Medical center. She enjoyed crocheting and doing ceramics. In addition to her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Wood; two brothers, Bruce Whitaker and Alvin Whitaker; two sisters, Jean Humphries and Mrytle Price; and a son-in-law, Kent Harmon.
Margaret is survived by a son, Michael "Mike" Wood and wife Cynthia of Belwood; a daughter, Karen Wood Harmon of Wilmington; two sisters, Betty Davis and husband Max of York SC. and Elizabeth Jones of Ellenboro; a brother, John Whitaker and wife Patsy of Shelby; five grandchildren, Lauren Gainor and husband Andy, Michael Harmon, Lee Wood, Dustin Wood and wife Miranda, and Lindsey Wood; and four great grandchildren, Ben Gainor, Kate Gainor, Audrey Wood and Lucy Wood.
The family would like to say thank you to Hospice and Carolinas Healthcare-Cleveland staff and a special Thank You to Carol and the staff of Carillon Assisted Living for the excellent care and support that they gave Margaret during her time with them.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday May 3, 2015 at2:00 pm in the Webb Chapel of First Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Tench officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Ladies Parlor. Burial will be held on Monday May 4, 2015 at 11:00 am at Cleveland Memorial Park.
