Marie Burgess Houpe
Marie Burgess Houpe, age 75 died Saturday July 13, 2013 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Iredell County on November 19, 1937,  she was the daughter of the late Chad Buford and Iva Lee Mecimore Burgess. She was a member of  the Hiddenite Baptist Church where she was the music director for 16 years. Later she was a member of the Front Street Baptist Church in Statesville, where she sang in the choir and in the 80’s she started and was the Sunday school teacher of the “Single Again” Sunday School Class. Marie was currently a member at Elizabeth Baptist Church. She worked as an administrative assistant for Clark Hurth Components in Statesville and for the last five years she was the Front Door receptionist at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Marie enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and great granddaughter and looked forward to Saturday morning breakfast with her family at Ken and Mary’s. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Linda Barnes.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Terry White and husband Scott of Shelby; two granddaughters, Bethany Marie White and Hannah Joy White, both of Shelby; her pride and joy, great granddaughter, Alaiyah Marie White; and her loving companion, tea-cup poodle “Gracie”.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 16, 2013 at 4:00pm at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Rev. Perry Hollomen and Rev. David White officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour before the service in the sanctuary of the church.
