Marilyn Fortenberry Smouther, 92, passed away April 24, 2022 at White Oak of Shelby in Cleveland County, North Carolina.

Marilyn was born on January 13, 1930, in Horry County, South Carolina, to the late F.G. and Eula Mew Britt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Walter Smouther, brother Clemson Edward Britt, and a son-in-law Willliam Andrew Powell, Jr.

She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Powell, Dawn Caldwell (John), and Michelle Garrison. Her sons, Douglas (Kim) and Michael Fortenberry; grandchildren, Drew Powell (Jodi), Katie Powell Belflower (Jeff), Tripp Keisler(Chrissy), Britt Keisler(Jordan), Michael Garrison, Charlie Burrus, Sam Burrus (Elena), and Noah Fortenberry and great-grandchildren, Lila and Luke Powell, Anna-Lea, Abby and Adon Keisler, Henry Belflower, and Vaia Burrus.

Marilyn will be forever remembered for her deep and abiding love of family. In addition, she was an excellent cook and gardener and enjoyed many types of needlework. Having grown up on the coast, she was always happy to spend time vacationing at the beach.
