Marion Iona Harshaw

Ms. Marion Iona Harshaw of 125 Gold St. Lawndale, NC departed this life on Thursday October 10th, 2013 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital in Shelby, NC. Ms. Harshaw was born on December 28th, 1923 to Mr. Hugh Harshaw and Mrs. Amanda Hunt Harshaw.

      She received her formal education from Douglas High School in Lawndale, NC, where she graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1944. She was employed by Cleveland County School System, where she served as Head Supervisor of the Cafeteria for many years. Subsequently, she was employed by Cleveland Mills in Lawndale for 19 years until her retirement. She was a member of Brooks Chapel United Methodist Church for her entire life.

     Ms. Harshaw is survived by two sisters: Dr. Allie G. Harshaw of Vanderburg, CA; and Amanda V. Sanders of Shelby, NC; four children, including one son, Jonathan Howard Harshaw (Corine) of Miami, FL and three daughters, Jacqueline Smith of Alexandria, VA, Teddie Crandall (Claude) of Durham, NC and Anita Byers of Winston Salem, NC; seven grandchildren, Lynette Howard, Talisha Woods, Jonathan Howard Jr., Paulita Wimbush, Toshiko Smith, Kenetria Byers and adopted granddaughter, Carlotha “Carla” Williamson; seven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, special friends and family, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Harshaw, two special nieces, Henerrita Farves and Jean Price, special friends,  Ellen Charles, Lois Shank, the Tyndle family and a host of other relatives and friends.

     Ms. Harshaw will be welcomed in death by her mother and father: Hugh Harshaw and  Amanda Harshaw; six brothers, Charles, Pink, J.Y., Arthur and Leonard and two sisters: Edith Harshaw and Rossie Withrow in that land so fair!

    Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013at 2:00 PM at Brooks Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Betty B. Brown officiating.  Burial will take place at the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:00 PM at the church on Wednesday.  Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloes.net.  Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
