Marjorie Ann Smith Hayes of Shelby, N.C., age 82, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 24 2015 at Hospice Wendover. She was born March 7, 1933. Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death, by her parents, Will and Bessie Smith; sisters, Mildred Blackwell and Lorene Self; brothers, Ed Smith and Calvin Smith; brother-in-laws, Donald Self, A.G. Whisnant, Jim Blackwell, Bob Hayes, and Jim Hamrick; sister-in-laws, Rosemary Hayes Perkins and Marlin Hayes Ensley.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James "Jim" Hayes; son, Timothy Hayes and wife Pamela of Georgia; sister, Virginia Hamrick; sister-in-law, Rachel Smith of Shelby; granddaughters, Chastity Hayes and Amber Voronov; great grandson, Aiden Voronov, all of Georgia and many favorite nephews and nieces.

She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and a wonderful homemaker. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a member of Delbert Lee Memorial Sunday School Class for 29 years. She loved to sing in the church choir and senior choir. She was a 1951 graduate Boiling Springs High School.

A celebration of life service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 7:00pm. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:00pm at the church in the sanctuary before the service. Dr. Timothy Sims, Rev. Trevor Thompson, and Honorary Pastor Dr. J.M. Ezell will be officiating.

The family would like to thank the Hospice Wendover staff for their excellent care and compassion shown to Marjorie and her family during her stay at Hospice. All staff members were very kind and thoughtful. Special thanks goes to Social Worker Margaret Towery and CAN, Claudia Boone.
