Marjorie Loretta Spurling age 73 died Monday, September 8, 2014 at her home. Born in Shelby on July 6, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Eulan Marion and Ethel Beatrice Edney Humphries. Loretta was a lifelong member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. She worked in the finance department for the City of Shelby for 28 years.  Loretta loved her family, friends, and grandchildren, and she enjoyed giving gifts to all of them.

Loretta is survived by her husband of 53 years, Roy Spurling; a daughter, Mitzi Springle and husband Patrick of Angier; a brother, Phil Humphries and wife Kaye of Shelby; and two grandchildren, Seth and Sydney Springle.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 6:00 pm in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Andy Oliver officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am at Cleveland Memorial Park.
