Martha Julia Walker DeVenny, age 90 of 501 N. Elm St. died Monday, July 27, 2015 at Carolina Care Center. She was born on May 25, 1925 in Cleveland County to the late J.A. and Julia E. Hartsoe Walker. She was retired from Dora Yarn Mills. Martha was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Cherryville where she was a member of the Young at Heart, the Ida Wright Circle, and the Florene Styles Sunday school class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, D.C. DeVenny; son, Kevin Scott DeVenny; brothers, Horace, Paul, and Arthur Walker; and a great granddaughter, Victoria Rose Jones.
Survivors include her son, Keith DeVenny and wife, Deborah of Cherryville; daughter-in-law, Robin Seate DeVenny of Cherryville; granddaughter, Angela Jones and husband, Scott; grandson, Nathaniel DeVenny; great grandson, Braden Luke Jones; and nephew, Danny Walker and wife, Vernice of Daytona Beach, FL.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Collins, D. Min. officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 29 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carpenter's Funeral & Cremation Services and at other times at the home of Keith and Deborah, 1281 Peal Dr.
