Marvin Bernard McDaniel

Marvin Bernard McDaniel, 88, of 804 Hampton Street, Shelby, NC, died on Monday, May 6, 2013, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born and educated in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Dewey and Minnie McDaniel.  He graduated from Cliffside High School and Howard Business College.  During WWII, Marvin served proudly in the US Army in Europe. Later he worked faithfully for Lithium Corporation of America for over 35 years before retiring to care for his beloved wife, Martha.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shelby.

In addition to his parents, Marvin was predeceased by his loving wife, Martha Hardin McDaniel, his sister, Ruby McDaniel White, and his grandson, Clark McDaniel.

He is survived by his sister, Edith McDaniel Humphries, and his three sons, Mike McDaniel (Kim), Chris McDaniel (Debi), and Mark McDaniel, and Shellie Hamrick.  

Marvin doted on and loved each of his seven surviving grandchildren: Taylor McDaniel Wickline (Matt), Bradey McDaniel Scott (Damon), Michael McDaniel, Jr., Wesley McDaniel, Morgan McDaniel, Emily McDaniel, and Maggie McDaniel.

Also surviving are six very special great grandchildren: Marin and Brighton Wickline, Lilliana and Cruz Scott, and Clarklynn and Mason McDaniel and several nieces and nephews.

 Marvin is also survived by a very special companion and long-time friend, Vera Gamble of Charlotte.

The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 pm at the chapel of Cecil Burton Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Davenport officiating.  The family will receive friends tonight (Wednesday) from 5:00 to 7:00 at the funeral home and at other times at the homes of Mike and Kim McDaniel, 1807 Arbor Way Drive, and Chris and Debi McDaniel, 1800 Arbor Way Drive.

Memorials may be made to Relay for Life of Cleveland County through the American Cancer Society, 1701 Brunswick Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28207.
