Mary Agnes Covington Howard, age 71 of Shelby, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by two children, Rick Howard and wife Jill of Shelby, NC, and Theresa Howard and boyfriend, Tony Laster of Inman, SC, three grandchildren, Shalla Newton, Savannah Howard, and Rex Howard, and a sister, Ann Waters and husband Arnold of Forest City, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born December 5, 1944 in Shelby, NC, Mary was the daughter of the late Richard Champion Covington and Phyrnia Elaine Hamrick Covington and was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Covington.

Mary was a member of First Baptist Church in Shelby. She worked as a CNA at Wendover Hospice in Shelby for 12 years. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and her Singles Group in Shelby.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Cleveland Funeral Service Chapel. A visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:30 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
