Mary Etta Wright Spain, 88, of 715 Cleveland Avenue, Grover, passed away
Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.
She was born in Cleveland County on June 8, 1923, to the late John Lawson
Wright and Nora Adeline Grigg Wright. She formerly employeed with Cleanese
and Lail's Upholstery, and was a member of Central Baptist Church, York.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Howard
Princeton Spain; son, Gene Mellon; four brothers Stough Wright, W.G. Wright,
Onley Wright and J.S. Wright; and five sisters, Izene Lail, Verda Wright,
Connie Yarbrough, Velma McSwain, and Elsie Hoyle.
Mrs. Spain is survived by her three sons, Dean Mellon of Blacksburg, SC,
Wayne Mellon and wife Peggy of York, SC, and Charles Mellon of Grover;
daughter, Alice Ponise Mellon-Wright of Whitfield, Virginia;
daughter-in-law, Pat Mellon of York, SC; two sisters, Leah Fortenberry of
Ellenboro, and Recca Grigg of Shelby; and 10 grandchildren, 17
great-grandchildren.
