Mary Frances Scism Carroll, age 85 of Old Post Rd passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017. She was born January 4, 1932 in Gaston County to the late Forest Ralph and Maude Mae Blanton Scism. Frances was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and retired after 40 years from Carolina Freight Carriers. She loved crossword puzzles and playing video games. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with family and watching all the kids play ball. She was their biggest fan for Cherryville Little League and Gastonia Mustangs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Jefferies; son-in-law, Jerry "Skeet" Jefferies; and sister, Betty Elliott.
Survivors include her children, Bryan Carroll and wife, Sheila of Cherryville and Betsy Jefferies of Cherryville; grandchildren, Kellie Hull (Stevilen), Ashley Jefferies, Mandy Neal (James), Patton Boone (Jessica), and Greg Carroll; great grandchildren, Aaliyah, Robert, Jibri, Amir, Kadin, Syncere, Noah, Ethan, Ayden, Landon, and Jessica; brothers, Kent Scism of Morganton, and Ralph Scism Jr. (Sherrell) of Litchfield Park, AZ; special niece, Wanda Scism; and special friends, Elizabeth, Anna, Hunter, and Noah.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 4:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Travis Mull officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:30 to 3:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
