Mary Helen McIntyre Ellis

Mary Helen McIntyre Ellis, age 98, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015 at Peak Resources-Shelby. She was born on May 20, 1917 in Cleveland County to the late Broadie and Mary Hardin McIntyre. Helen worked for over 50 years at Lily Mill in distribution as a packing clerk. She volunteered for many years for the Senior Center. She was an expert quilter, enjoyed sewing, traveling, and playing bingo. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She formerly attended Patterson Springs Baptist Church and was a current member for over 70 years at Lafayette Street United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband Lewis Ervin and her second husband J.D. Ellis; brothers, Frank McIntyre, Dewey McIntyre, and Blaine McIntyre; sisters, Thelma Gold, Madge Turner, and Ray Whitaker.

Helen is survived by her son, Ed Ervin and wife Karen of Poplar Bluff, M.O.; brother, Gus McIntyre and wife Betty of Shelby; sisters, Jackie Greene of Shelby, and Margaret Brumley of Gastonia; grandchildren, Eric Ervin and wife Erma of Annandale, V.A., John Ervin and wife Victoria of M.O.; great grandchildren, Ethan Ervin, Aaron Ervin, Kevin Ervin, and Charlotte Ervin.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 2:00pm at the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Arthur Holland officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00pm. Burial will be at Sunset Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Lafayette Street United Methodist Church 1420 S. Lafayette St. Shelby, NC 28150.
