Mary Lee Tessneer, 74, of Blacksburg, went home to be with the Lord September 2, 2013 , at Peachtree Centre, Gaffney, SC. She was the wife of the late Charles L. Tessneer and a daughter of the late Clarence P. and Maude Poteat McDaniel. She was retired from the Cherokee County Disabilities & Special Needs Board. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she loved singing in the choir. She loved cooking and sewing, but most of all she loved her family and church.
She is survived by two sons - Douglas Smith of Gaffney, SC, and Mike Smith of Smyrna, SC; one daughter - Dale Smith of Blacksburg, SC; three stepsons - Steve Tessneer, Mike Tessneer and Gary Tessneer all of Shelby, NC; three step-daughters - Carol Campbell, Judy Gorman and Linda Whitaker all of Shelby, NC; five grandchildren - Crystal Smith, Anthony "Andy" Childers, Jeremy "Adam" Childers, Michael Lee Smith, II, and Courtney Smith; one brother - Jessie McDaniel of Blacksburg, SC; and one sister - Thelma Lanier of Smyrna, SC. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by one daughter - Robin Karen McDaniel; two brothers - Frank McDaniel and Dwight McDaniel; and three sisters - Vonnie McDaniel, Beatrice McDaniel and Edith Walker.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 4, 2013, from 2-3:00 PM, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 3:00 PM, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Revs. Steve Hicks, Richard Brown and Dr. Billy Boone officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Blacksburg, SC. At other times, the family will be at their respective homes.
Pallbearers serving are Michael Lee Smith II, Adam Tyler Fisher, Adam Childers, David Pyse, Glenn Gregory and Jere McCullough.
