Mary Priester Dorsey
Mary Priester Dorsey, 90, of 406 West Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, SC, went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord August 3, 2016. Mary was born in Bamberg, SC, and was the daughter of the late James Wilson Priester and Susan Hardin Priester.
Mary graduated from National Bible Institute in New York City. She met and married John L. Dorsey in 1951. They left for India in 1952 as Bible Presbyterian missionaries. Along with five teachers, they established Faith Academy in 1964 as a Bible-based Christian school, which has birthed seven other schools of like origin. Later a Presbyterian Theological Seminary was established to train local pastors.
Mary served as first principal of Faith Academy. She later taught and headed up the counseling ministry of the school. Mary served forty-two years in New Dehli. Due to her declining health, she returned to Blacksburg in 1991, where she continued her mission work in the community and the Blacksburg ARP Church. Her love for her family, Christ, and her desire to share Him with others never diminished. Mary's ability to seek wisdom from God's Word through the Holy Spirit made her a very wise counselor. Friends shared, that during her physical struggles, they would encourage Mary in her circumstances, and would leave strengthened themselves because of her complete trust in Christ.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Dorsey, her parents, and sisters Norma Robinson and Ena Martin. She is survived by two sisters - Martha Carter of Leesburg, FL, and Sue Ortino of Easley, SC; two brothers - Dr. Robert Priester(Sara) of Cary, NC, and Rev. Bill Priester(Joan) of Fayetteville, GA.
A graveside Celebration Of Life Service will be held Monday, August 8, 2016, 11:00 AM, at Grover City Cemetery, Grover, NC, with Rev. Jim Klukow officiating. They will receive friends following the service. You may view Mary at the funeral home Monday from 8:30 - 9:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blacksburg ARP Church, 108 S. Chester Street, Blacksburg, SC, 29702; or to Christ Covenant Church, 800 Fullwood Lane, Matthews, NC, 28105.
