Mattie Hunt Wellmon

Mattie Hunt Wellmon, age 84 died Saturday March 15, 2014 surrounded by her family at her home. Born in Cleveland County on February 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Bulo McKinley and Coy Lee Self Hunt. Mattie retired from Dover Mill after 30 years of service. She graduated Lattimore High School where she enjoyed playing volleyball, basketball and softball. Mattie was a devoted daughter and took care of her mother when her health was failing. Mattie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports.  In addition to her parents, Mattie is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Jack Wellmon; four sisters, LDee Carter, Lillie Hord, Margie Palm, and Barbara Young; and four brothers, Paul Hunt, Ralph Hunt, Jack Hunt and Bud Hunt.

Mattie is survived by, two daughters, Jackie Hamrick and husband Ronnie of Shelby and Sandra Morrison and husband Charlie of Shelby; grandchildren, GySgt. Matthew Queen and wife Amber of New Bern, Phillip Queen and wife Angel of Shelby, Carly Morrison, Dylan Morrison, and Megan Morrison, all of Shelby; four great grandchildren, Makayla, Kaitlyn, Jackson and Madison Queen; a sister, Lalene Washburn of Boiling Springs; and a caregiver Melissa Porter.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday March 18, 2014 at 2:00pm  in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Jared Pankhurst officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 1:00pm until 2:00pm.
