Max Dellinger
Max Dellinger, age 86 of S. Elm St. passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Carolinas Healthcare System Cleveland. He was born August 25, 1931 in Gaston County to the late Junius Clarence and Dona Belle Sellers Dellinger. Max retired from Carolina Freight after 46 years of service. He was a Korean War Veteran of the US Army and a member of Cherryville American Legion Post #100. Max was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church where his family had been charter members. At St. John's, Max served as Treasurer for 22 years, served on church council, involved with fellowship group, was member of Lutheran Men in Mission and various other church committees. He attended Queens College and was a master rook player.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Harold, J.C., Herman, Tom, and Lester Dellinger; and sisters, Dot Blalock, Ann Childers, and Ruby Hubbard.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Gloria Jean Hullender Dellinger; son, Scott Dellinger of Cherryville; daughter, Chandra Nunnery and husband, Keith of Cherryville; grandchildren, Joshua Hendricks and Jordan Hendricks, both of Cherryville; sisters, Gail and Charlie Peeler of Lincolnton and Kay and Ken Marks of Lincolnton; brother-in-law, Calvin Blalock; sisters-in-law, Margie Dellinger and Fay Dellinger, both of Cherryville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2017 at 3:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Ben Kifer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:30 to 2:45 PM at the church in the Saints Hall and at other times at the home.
