Melvin Roger Hammond

Melvin Roger Hammond, 77, of Shelby, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Hospice at Wendover, Shelby.

Born in Cleveland County, on June 17, 1944, he was a son of the late J.C. Hammond and Ola Thomas Hammond. He was a member of Buffalo Shoals Baptist Church. He also served in the US Air Force.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Pruitt Hammond; brother, Thomas Hammond and sister, Peggy Davis.

He is survived by his two daughters, Angie Turner and husband, Richard of Simpsonville, SC and Dana Hamrick and husband, Michael of Boiling Springs; sister, Betty Howie and husband, J.G. of Polkville; four grandchildren, Hayden Turner and wife, Mallica, Molly Turner, Caroline Hamrick and Erin Hamrick; special sweetheart dog, Missy; brother-in-law, C.L. Davis of Belwood and sister-in-law, Gayla Hammond of Shelby.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 3:00 pm in the Rose Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum with Rev. Jim Richardson officiating. The body will lie in state thirty minutes before the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brian Center Health and Retirement, 515 S. Generals Blvd., Lincolnton, NC 28092.
