Merle Francis Towery Tallent, 66, of 141 Big Hill Rd. in Lawndale passed away August 15, 2013 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Born December 22, 1946, a native of Burke County, she was a daughter of the late John Henry Towery and Annie Maude Smith Towery. She was employed by Burke Yarn of Valdese in the seventies then became a homemaker and a
babysitter for many years for local children. She attended Olive Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her foster parents, Clemmie and Florence Cook; brother, Billy Towery and foster brother, Johnny Cook.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Darles Frank Tallent, daughter, Loretta Epley and husband, Jeff of Morganton, grandchildren, Jason Parker and wife, Krista of Lawndale and Taylor Epley of Morganton; brothers,
Pinkney Towery and wife, Penny, Calvin Towery and Frederick "Bus" Towery and wife, Becky all of Connelly Springs; two sisters, Jean Towery and husband, Ezelle of Connelly Springs and Reba Garland and Frank of Morganton; foster
sister, Brenda Brackett of Glen Alphine; foster brothers, David Cook and wife, Suzie of Connelly Springs and Bob Cook and wife, Kay of Lawndale; sister-in-law, Edna Lemmons of Lawndale; special nieces and nephews, Amy
Vaughn and husband, Jamie of Lawndale, Dawn Mellon and Doug of Lawndale, Melanie Arndt of Fallston, Andy Mellon and wife, Sarah of Lawndale and Ray Lemmons and wife, Kathy of Hickory; and other numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM, Sunday at Stamey Funeral Home
Funeral service: 3:00 PM, Sunday at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, Fallston
Officiating: Rev. Jackie Price and Rev. Terrill Crump
Burial will follow at Olive Grove Baptist Church.
