Mildred Christine Patterson Pennington
 Mildred Christine Patterson Pennington, 70, of 128 Pennington Farm Dr., died Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg, SC.  Mrs. Pennington was born in Cleveland County, NC. She was the wife of Harold Dean Pennington, Sr. and the daughter of the late George Blanton Patterson and Myrtle Whitesides Patterson of Patterson Springs, NC.  She was valedictorian of Township Number 3 Class of 1960.  She retired from Kings Mountain, NC District Schools as a third grade teaching assistant at Grover Elementary School.  She was a member of First Baptist Church Blacksburg.

In addition to her husband, survivors include son Harold Dean Pennington, Jr. and wife Laurinda of Blacksburg, SC and their children:  Allison Elizabeth and Andrew William; daughter Paula Pennington Cobb and husband Kelee of Blacksburg, SC and their children:  William Dean and Kaleb Christian; brother Joseph George Patterson of Shelby, NC; and sisters Beth Patterson Dalton of Belmont, NC, Celia Patterson Pribble of Shelby, NC, and Sadie Patterson Lowery of Shelby, NC, and twelve nieces and nephews.  

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm Monday, November 7, 2011 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church Blacksburg.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 8, 2011 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church Blacksburg conducted by the Reverend Scott Hammett and Dr. Bobby Morrow.   Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.  The family is at the residence.

Pallbearers serving are Andrew Pennington, Will Cobb, Kaleb Cobb, Joey Patterson, Scott Patterson, John Pribble, Jimmy Pribble, and Jason Lowery.  Honorary pallbearers are Joe Patterson, Darryl Hopper, Steven Lowery, Lawrence Allison, Nubert McDaniel and Vic Byars. 

Memorials may be made to Duke Cancer Institute, Office of Development, DUMC 3828, Durham, NC  27710, and Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Dr., Spartanburg, SC  29303.  

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her loving caregivers:  Angela Pursell, Tracy Ledbetter, Wilma McDowell, Faye Cartee and Edna Howard.
