Mildred Keeter-Davis

Mildred Keeter-Davis, 93, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Sterling House in Shelby.  Born in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Abroth Waddell and Leah Mildred Jolley Hamrick.  She was also preceded in death by her late husband, Hoyt S. Keeter, Sr.; brother, Broadus Hamrick; sisters, Linaria Philbeck, Ola Blanton, Odenia Goforth, Inez Hamrick, Nellie Peeler, Lois Clark, Mable Whisnant.

Mildred was born in Mooresboro and was a lifelong resident of Cleveland County.  She spent her life enriching the lives of others by supporting many charitable organizations. She served on the boards of the Abuse Prevention Council of Cleveland County, the YMCA, and the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Cleveland County. She served also as vice president of the Shelby Junior High School PTA. When Shelby-Cleveland County decided to pursue the acquisition of the American Legion World Series on a permanent basis, Mildred gave the lead gift to make that dream the acknowledged success it has become.

Mildred’s faith was very important to her and she demonstrated its importance by teaching in youth activities, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

Even though she was never an employee of Keeter Ford, she spent countless hours supporting her late husband Hoyt S. Keeter Sr. in his efforts to make Keeter Ford into the highly respected Ford dealership it became and continues to be.

Mildred had an adventurous spirit and loved being outdoors where she could indulge her passions for gardening, golfing and fishing. She served as the garden club coordinator for the Cleveland County Fair and was a long-term member of the Cleveland Springs Garden Club.

Family members called her Mimi and describe her as compassionate, generous and loving. She was most proud of her three grandchildren, who were the highlights of her life. Whether they were involved in dance, baseball, beauty pageants, soccer or school, Mimi was their biggest supporter and cheerleader.

All who knew her will continue to celebrate her as the advocate she was for family, faith and community.

Davis, Sr.; daughters, Millie Keeter Holbrook & husband Eddie Holbrook of Shelby, Billie Kathryn Keeter Coffee and husband Demetrius Coffee of Marietta, GA; step daughter, Deanne Keeter Robertson of Shelby; step sons, H.S.
