| Mildred Rachels Nettles, 77, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2011 at Peak Resources in Shelby. She was the daughter of the late Lemuel Capers and Lucille Bowers Hucks. She was preceded in death by her former husbands and three sisters. Mrs. Nettles was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. She was known for creating drapery, Millie Billie dolls and was an award winning hair stylist. She loved arts and crafts, singing, playing the piano and working with her hands.
Mrs. Nettles is survived by three sons, Milton Rachels and wife Rhonda of Shelby, Lem Rachels and wife Tina of Shelby, Hardy Nettles and wife Lori of Bellingham, WA; one daughter, Ally Plympton and life partner Reuben Blanton of Shelby; one brother, L.C. Hucks of Wiggins, MS; one sister Theresa Strozzo Calhoun of Statesboro, GA; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Cecil M Burton Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jeff Erbscorn will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00pm prior to the service. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
