Monkey See Monkey Not Do
It’s true that men and monkeys share certain similarities.  Both are able to walk upright on two legs.  Both possess powers of reason.  Both are able to learn.  Both have the capacity to love and to care for others in their species.  So what is it that makes us different and cuts into the theory of some evolutionists who believe that man evolved from our furry counterparts?
Unlike monkeys, some men are drawn by the sound of a musical instrument and their souls are not satisfied until they can learn to play it and possibly compose music.  Others are moved by a book or a poem, so much so that they spend the rest of their lives writing something of their own.  Some marvel at natures creation and they spend their lives painting or sculpting, creating their own masterpieces.  Others are moved to build, to teach, to fly, to heal, etc., and they spend their lives in pursuit of those accomplishments.
What sets us apart from apes and other animals is our instinct to dream.  To imagine.  To accomplish.  To be fulfilled.  Essentially to create.
The Bible says that God created man, and only man, in His image (Gen. 1:27).  And what is the image of God?  He is above all else a creator.  He created everything we can see as well as the things we cannot.  He made turtles and trees.  Donkeys and daffodils.  Galaxies and giraffes.  Men and monkeys. Each a little different.
Man’s creativity is what sets him apart from all the other creations of God.  We yearn to create something of our own because we are what God has made us to be.  Creators ourselves to a lesser extent.
I don’t need anyone making a monkey out of me.  I do a good enough job of that on my own.  I’d much rather know that I have been birthed into the kingdom of God and not derived from the kingdom of animals.
