| Myrtie Eudora Hancock McSwain, 96, passed away, April 20, 2011. She was born August 20, 1914, the daughter of John Augusta and Martha Williams Hancock on the family farm in the Mt. Carmel Church community of Moore County, NC. She attended school at Mount Carmel School and later at West End School. She was the youngest of eight children. Her siblings who all predeceased her were two infants, Ethel Hancock (Mrs. Andrew Jackson), Alma Hancock (Mrs. Pete Cockman), Gertie Hancock (Mrs. Alex Flinchum), Alvin Hancock (Margaret May), and Albert Hancock.
She was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Robbins, NC until she married Audy Trent McSwain of Cleveland County, NC on December 12, 1936. After the marriage, she and her husband made their home in Earl, NC where she joined New Hope Baptist Church.
Myrtie was a beautician and worked in various textile mills in Moore and Cleveland Counties, NC. She also kept children in her home for working parents or for the child to attend school. All children were special to Myrtie & Trent. Judy Dover, Lanie Butts, Pam Sharts Isaacs and Penny Sharts Clontz had a special relationship that lasted throughout their lives. Her home has always been a loving place to visit for any length of stay. She was an excellent cook and homemaker.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation will be Friday, April 22, 2011 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home, 106 Cherryville Road, Shelby, NC 28150. Services will be held at New Hope Baptist Church, 2621 Blacksburg Road, 28038 Earl, NC, Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 11:00 am. The Rev. Russ Bradley and Rev. David Gordon will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
