Nancy Lutz Wood

Nancy Lutz Wood, 86, of Bryan and formerly of Toledo, Ohio, Birmingham, Mich., and Shelby, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Center.

            A native of Shelby, she was born June 24, 1927, the daughter of the late James Ogburn and Annie Mae Webb Lutz. She was a 1945 graduate of Shelby High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Duke University in 1949. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Mrs. Wood married her high school sweetheart, James Carver Wood, Jr., on June 18, 1949 in Shelby, and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage until Mr. Wood passed away on April 27, 2006.

            Mrs. Wood was also preceded in death by her brothers, James Lutz and John Lutz, and a sister, Marjorie Lutz Douglas.

            Mrs. Wood was a devoted homemaker and found great enjoyment in nurturing her family and meeting the needs of those she could. She also played the piano and organ and shared her gift in many churches. She enjoyed gardening and traveling.

            Surviving Mrs. Wood are her two children, James Carver “Chip” Wood III and wife, Tammy, of Bryan and Ann Wood Rehmann and husband, Eric, of Foristell, Mo.; three grandsons, Casey Wood of Bryan, Eric Richard Rehmann II and Mitchell Rehmann, both of Foristell, Mo.

            Services were held for Mrs. Wood Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home in Bryan.

            Lutz-Austell Funeral Home will serve the Wood family locally.

            The family will receive friends 11 a.m. until noon Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Sunset Cemetery with Dr. Joe Collins officiating.

            Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to Central United Methodist Church, 200 E. Marion St., Shelby, NC 28150.
