What: 69th Annual Shelby Hamfest
When: 9:00 am, Friday. 7:00 am, Saturday. August 29-30.
Where: Cleveland County Fairgrounds, 1751 E. Marion St., Shelby, NC.
More Info: Shelby Amateur Radio Club began hosting this event in 1957. Shelby Hamfest is an event where Amateur Radio vendors & manufacturers come to show their latest products. There is also a flea market for folks to sell their used equipment, antique radios, crafts, etc. Campers begin arriving a week ahead of time to visit and fellowship with each other. In the mid 1990's the attendance grew to 10,000. While attendance has dropped in recent years, the attendance is still considered one of the largest Hamfest on the east coast and is the largest in the ARRL Roanoke Division (North & South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia).

What: Free Pet Food Drive
When: 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, (or until supplies run out) August 30.
Where: (Former EO Studio's) 1054 Old Boiling Springs Rd., Shelby, NC. Drive-Through Format Only.
More Info: Clifford's Army Rescue is stepping up to support our neighbors in need. If you're struggling to provide food for your pets, we're here to help--because no animal should go hungry, and no family should have to choose between love and afford ability. **Drive-Through Format Only:** Stay in your vehicle--we'll come to you and help determine what your pet needs. **Food is supplemental:** This drive is meant to bridge the gap and support your animals until you're able to purchase food again. **Our Mission:** Clifford's Army is committed to keeping pets with their families by offering compassionate support during tough times. When we help our community, we help our animals. Let's stand together, Shelby. One bag of kibble, one caring gesture at a time.

Saturday, SEPTEMBER 6
What: Hike with the C.A.R.E. Dogs
When: 10:00 am until Noon, September 6.
Where: Kings Mountain Gateway Trail, 807 S. Battleground Ave., Kings Mountain, NC.
More Info: Come join us, let us match you with a CARE doggie and hike any of the trails at Kings Mountain Gateway Trails. There is a trail for everyone, from flat and not too far, to one that will give you a killer workout. Let us know what energy level and size dog you will like to hike with in the comments when you sign up. This is a great time and great fun. This is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise while helping a CARE doggie get out, socialize and be seen by potential adopters. Its a win win for humans and doggies! Many come back and hang out for a bit with the dogs before leaving. Its truly a win win for the doggies and the humans.
Deadline to sign up is Friday, September 5 at 2 pm. This will give us time to match dogs to your preference as far as energy level and size. Please note in the comments what size, energy level dog you would like to hike/walk.


Saturday, SEPTEMBER 13
What: Diaper Run Charity/Fundraiser
When: 3:30 for Bikes. 4:30 for event, September 13.
Where: Shelby Mission Camp, 302 Sharpton Dr., Shelby, NC.
More Info: Diaper Run is a charity motorcycle ride collecting Diapers for local foster care families and other families facing hardships. The ride will start at 616 S Morgan St and end at Shelby Mission Camp (302 Sharpton Dr). At the finish line there will be live music by The Justin Corbett Band, free food, and tons of door prizes. This is a collaborative event with The One More One Less Project. Registration is required to participate.


~Announcements~
Writer's INK: Local writing group, will hold their next meeting on Friday, September 5 from I-3pm at the Cleveland County Library. This informal peer group meet's the first Friday of the month and writer's of all genres are welcomed to attend. Feel free to bring a piece of your choice to share.

Blood Drive: Family Worship Center COG, 1818 Shelby Rd., also sponsored by the KM Ministerial Assn. on Monday, September 15 from 12 till 6. Walk-Ins are welcome. ID is required. You may preregister at OneBlood.org/donate. $20 gift card and another gift to all donors.

Nar-Anon Support Group: Meets 6:30 pm weekly on Tuesdays at the First Baptist Church, 120 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC. Nar-Anon is a support group for those affected by someone else's drug addiction. We meet in the classroom off Dale St. between Sumter & Campbell St. Park on the side of the church or in the alley. Al-Anon Support Groups: Al-Anon Family Support Groups support those who are affected by someone else's drinking and drug use. No Name AFG meets on Mondays at Noon at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 510 W Sumter St., Shelby. Contact Kay at 704-473-4891. Shelby AFG meets on Thursdays at 8:00 pm at Shelby Presbyterian Church, 226 E. Graham St., Shelby. Contact Jann at 704-692-7688.
