Piecemakers Quilt Guild
  Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10AM - 12PM at the Lincoln County Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. Meetings include a business meeting, show and tell, and a program related to quilting.  The April 4th  will feature Anna Therrell speaking on Landscape Quilts.Information: Tony Darr 704 439 6532.
Neal Senior Center Council On Aging

        Older American’s Month - “Super Spectacular”  - Friday, May 4 - Open House and Information Fair, 3:00 pm– 5:00pm, Hot Dog Supper beginning at 5:00pm. Reverse Raffle Drawing for cash and prizes begins at 6:00 pm. Raffle tickets are now on sale at the Senior Center.  Tickets: $50.00 each (For a chance to win $3000.00 Grand Prize) Other chances to 4-$500.00 plus other prizes will be given away.  Free Hot Dog supper beginning at 5:00pm to all Raffle participants and contributors, all others $5.00. South Mountains State Park
   Every Saturday in April at 10:00 am. - “Spring Wildflower Walks” - Join a Park Ranger for a wildflower walk along the Jacob Fork River.  These moderate hikes will begin at the Jacob Fork Parking Area and last approximately two hours.  Each hike will be about two miles long.  Current blooming wildflowers and other flora will be identified on this walk.
      Saturday, April 14 - “Bats” - Are bats blind?  Do they fly into your hair?  Do they turn into vampires?  Join a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm to learn some Bat facts and have an opportunity to view some Bats.
   Sunday, April 15 - “Skulls & Skins” - Drop by between 2-3:00 pm and hear about some of the animals that call South Mountains State Park home.
   Saturday, April 21 & 28 - “Streamside Hike”. Join a Park Ranger at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 2:00 pm for a 1.0 hour streamside hike along the Jacob Fork River.  Watersheds, flora, fauna, and water quality will be the focus of this approximately 1.0 mile walk.
   Sunday, April 22 - “Skulls & Skins”. Drop by between 2-3:00 pm and hear about some of the animals that call South Mountains State Park home.
   Sunday, April 29 - “The 10 Essentials”. What items should you always carry with you when hiking?  Meet a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 11:00 am to learn about the “10 Essentials”.

   It’s Back! 2012 Cleveland Mall’s Cruise-In. 2nd Sat., April-September 5-9 pm. Classic cars and motorcycles. Enjoy tunes from Captain Ron’s Beach & Boogie. Applebee’s Diabetes Fundraiser
   You are invited to come out to support a great cause!!!! Applebee’s Shelby, on Saturday, April 14th, 7:30am to 10:00 am. The event is for Jordan of Shelby NC, an 11 year old suffering from type 1 diabetes. Come out and eat pancakes and help in finding a cure for this life long disease. Jordan was diagnosed at the age of 1 with this life threatening disease and is in much need of finding a cure. GSCT Presents “Rabbit Hole”
   The Greater Shelby Community Theatre will present the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “Rabbit Hole”. The play tells the story of a young couple dealing with loss. Performances are April 13-15 and April 20-22 in Keeter Auditorium, CCC. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30pm, Sunday performances are at 2:30pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors/students. Presale discount tickets will be available at various area outlets two weeks prior to performance. This play is rated PG13 and contains adult language.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation & Love Thy Neighbor Food Ministry Fundraiser
   Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation & Love Thy Neighbor Food Ministry Fundraiser will  be held on Saturday, April 14 at Prospect Baptist Church, 2610 Prospect Church Rd., Mooresboro in honor of Blake Scruggs, 13 year old diabetic. Yard Sale begins at 7 a.m until. $5.00 registration to food ministry sellers keep proceeds or can donate some or all of sales. Car show: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m. $10 registration goes to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation if it rolls and runs bring it Trophies awarded. Blakes Choice gets a special trophy. Cornhole tournament Double Elimination $6.00/person registration. Trophies awarded begins at 12 noon. Come early to register. Food: Hot dogs, nachos/cheese, popcorn, canned drinks, water. $1.00 each. Bring your own lawn chairs and umbrellas. Lawndale Boy Scouts Fish Fry
   A Fish Fry for the Lawndale Boy Scouts Pack 112 will be held on Saturday, April 14 at 5 pm at Lawndale Community Center at 119 Piedmont Dr., Lawndale. Fish plate includes: fish, fries, hushpuppies, slaw and tea. $8.00 and fish sandwich & tea $5.00. There will also be homemade desserts for sale. Sponsored by family and friends. Life Enrichment Center, Managing
Dementia-Related Behaviors”
   Managing Dementia-Related Behaviors” will be the topic for the meeting of family caregivers Tuesday, April 17, at the Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Service in Shelby. Christie Ray of Home Instead will present the program, which begins at 5:30 p.m. and is open to anyone. A free sitter service is available for the person with dementia but a reservation is required for the sitter service by calling 704.484.0405 by April 10. For questions, call Linda at 704.484.0405.
Hospice, Cleveland County
   Hospice, Cleveland County will hold a Spring Memorial Service on  Sunday, April 15, 2:00 p.m.  at Elizabeth Baptist Church, 301 N. Post Rd., Shelby. Patients that have died September 1, 2011 through February 29, 2012 will be remembered. Family members will receive a special invitation.
   Hospice Cleveland County will also hold a Memory Bear Workshop on Tuesday, April 17, 9:00 am-noon or 4:00 pm-7:00 pm at Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building. Participants will have the opportunity to make a teddy bear out of a loved one’s shirt or other article of clothing. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. National Healthcare Decisions Day
   National Healthcare Decisions Day will be held on Monday, April 16. Join Americans across the country in making future healthcare decisions known to family, friends and healthcare providers. Share your wishes and complete your advance directive, because your decisions matter. Information and someone to assit you will be available at these locations on Monday, April 16, 10 am-3 pm: Cleveland Mall, Cleveland Regional Medical Center and Patrick Senior Center - Kings Mountain.
Registration Open For MS Walk
   The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has opened registration for this year’s walk in Shelby. Walk MS: Shelby is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, in Shelby City Park (850 W. Sumter Street). Walk MS, an annual fundraiser for more than 20 years, is an opportunity for the community to support the estimated 15,500 people living with multiple sclerosis in the Greater Carolinas Chapter area. Sixty percent of all the money raised will go to programs, services and advocacy for Greater Carolinas residents. The rest will support national research to find the cause and cure of MS. KM Relay For Life “Zumba For Life Glow Party”
  Kings Mountain’s Relay for Life is having a “Zumba for Life GLOW Party” on Saturday, April 21, 7pm- 9:30pm at Shapes by Jodi, 5124 East Dixon Blvd,  Kings Mountain, NC  Registration begins at 6:15pm.  $10 in advance and $15 at the door, all proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society. Wear white or anything that will glow under blacklights (florescent) to support cancer awareness. This event is for people of all shapes and sizes, ages 8 and older. Zumba is an exhilarating, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, dance fitness-party that is downright addictive. Come out, learn some new moves, burn some calories and have a great time for a great cause. 7th Annual Golf Tournament
   Cleveland Regional Rehab’s 7th Annual Golf Tournament “Fore” A Cure on Friday, April 27 at Deer Brook Golf Club. Lunch at 12:00 p.m. Shot Gun Start at 1:00 p.m. Registrations fees: $75.00 per player or $300.00 per foursome. Includes lunch, a round of golf, cart fees, snacks throughout the day and door prizes. Hole sponsorshiips available for $100. 19th hole donations also available in honor or memory of a friend or loved one who has or has had cancer. KM Historical Museum Girl Scout Exhibit
   The Kings Mountain Historical Museum and Girl Scouts Carolina Peaks to Piedmont are proud to present, Something for the Girls: GSUSA -100 years. “Something for the Girls”: GSUSA -100 years celebrates the founding of the Girl Scouts in America 100 years ago. The exhibit, which celebrates the founding of the Girl Scouts in America 100 years ago, features artifacts from the central and western North Carolina regions. Cliffords Army Rescue Extravaganza
   Cliffords Army Rescue Extravaganza will be held Saturday April 28th at the Cleveland County Fairgounds. Special guest of honor will be Barbara McKay, Shelby native and Charlotte TV personality. All proceeds will go to the Clifford Fund, managed by the Cleveland County Humane Society, for the medical needs of our Shelter Animals. The all day event will feature a doggie trot, a 5K Race, a Poker Run, a corn hole tournament, a four legged beauty pageant, pet contests, pet pics, dunking booth, live auction, Sheriff’s Department K-9 exhibition, live auction and luminary service. Cleveland County Animal Control will have shelter animals for adoption from 10am until 2pm. Vendors and rescue groups will be in the exhibit hall. Southern Experience will play from 10am until noon. Evergreen will play for the first annual Bully Ball that evening beginning at 8pm.    The Shelby Civitan Club will sponsor a BBQ Chicken Lunch on Sunday, April 29, 11:00-1:00 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, Shelby. Take out/drive thru only. Tickets $10. Proceeds go to North Shelby Christmas Party, Special Olympics and various other activities for the mentally and physically disabled.
4th Annual “Equestrians For The Cure” Ride
“Riding For A Cure” The 4th annual ‘Equestrians for the Cure” trail ride to fight Multiple Sclerosis will be on Saturday, May 5th, 2012. The location will be Hollis, NC. We would like to encourage all equestrians to support this event. The cost is $30.00 per rider which includes a t-shirt and lunch. The money raised at this event will go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to be used for research. There has been great progress toward new treatments this past year. The “Equestrians for the Cure” trail rides have raised over $3,000 each year for 3 years, starting in 2009. Any business that would like to be a sponsor can have their business advertised on the t-shirt for a $100 donation. Golf Event At Deer Brook Golf Club
   The  Shelby  Lions  Club  is  sponsoring  a  golf  tournament  Monday,  May  7,  at  Deerbrook  Country  Club.    It  is  a  4  person  Captain’s  Choice  event,  and  fees  are  $60  per  player   or  $240  per  team.    Cash  and  other  prizes  will  be  offered. Proceeds  will be used for the SHS Scholarship Fund and Cleveland County Hearing & Sight Conservation needs.   Those interested in playing in the event should pick up a reservation form at Deer Brook Golf Club, First National Bank South Branch, or call  Lion  President  David  Titus  at 704 406 9331.
 Cleveland County Schools Summer Camp
   Cleveland County Schools is currently taking registrations for Summer Camp. The program is designed to provide supervised care for children in grades K-5 including rising Kindergarten and rising 6th grade students. $85 per week for the first child and $80.00 for each additional child attending from the same family. $10.00 Kidz Around T-Shirt fee $30.00 registration fee required for each child and is  NON-REFUNDABLE LOCATION: SHELBY INTERMEDIATE  SCHOOL.
