Relay for Life
The Relay for Life events:
April 22, 2017 - The Leonard McSwain band will highlight an evening of fun and fellowship Saturday, April 22, 2017 to benefit Relay for Life. A hot dog supper will begin at 5:30pm in the Family Life Center of Double Springs Baptist Church. The music will begin at 6:30pm. Admission is by donation to Relay.
Double Springs is located at 1130 Double Springs Church Road, off of Washburn Switch Road, near Lattimore.
American Cancer Society Lincolnton, NC is holding its annual fundraising evening of events and celebration of survivors on Friday, May 5, 2017. Come ride your motorcycle on a 1 hour police escorted night group ride "BUG RUN" through Western Lincoln County, followed by our lap of lights and thunder around the stadium track that excites all the spectators. The Ride will start and end at the Relay event held at the Lincolnton High School Stadium. First sticker is $10, additional are $5. Upon completion of the ride, the bike with the most bug splats on the sticker wins $100 cash prize. Registration 6:30-8:30pm. Kickstands up 9:00pm. All brands of motorcycle manufacturers are encouraged to participate.

Arts Council of Lincoln County
The Arts Council of Lincoln County would like to invite everyone to an opening reception on Thursday, April 13, 2017 in the galleries of the Lincoln Cultural Center. The Lincoln Photography Club will be presenting, Beautiful North Carolina. This art will be on display April 10 through April 28, 2017. Kingstown Community Watch
Kingstown Community Watch will be having its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Kingstown Park 10:00-12:00. Once again they will be hiding the golden egg with cash inside. Everyone is welcome to attend.
City of Kings Mountain Easter Egg Hunt
HOP on down to the annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 10:00am, for a Hoppy Good Time! 10,000 prize and candy eggs will be hidden across 3 sections of the Mayor Rick Murphrey Children's Park (next to the YMCA) 211 Cleveland Ave, Kings Mountain, NC 28086. There will be three age categories - 2 years and under, 3-5 and 6-10 years old. The EGGstravaganza will include a petting zoo, music, and a visit from the Easter Bunny himself! Don't forget to bring your basket and camera! Along with all the fun, Parkwood Baptist Church will be providing free hotdogs!
South Mountains State Park, Connelly Springs
South Mountains State Park, 3001 South Mountains Park Avenue, Connelly Springs, NC 28612. (828) 433-4772. Upcoming Every Saturday in April at 10:00 am. and every Sunday in April at 2:00 pm. "Spring Wildflower Walks" - Join a Park Ranger for a wildflower walk along the Jacob Fork River. These moderate hikes will begin at the Jacob Fork Parking Area and last approximately one hour. Each hike will be about 0.75 miles long. Current blooming wildflowers and other flora will be identified on this walk.
Saturday, April 15, 2017 - "Skulls & Skins" - Drop by between 2-3:00pm and hear about some of the animals that call South Mountains State Park home.
Saturday, April 22, 2017 - "The 10 Essentials" - What items should you always carry with you when hiking? Meet a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm to learn about the "10 Essentials".
Sunday, April 23 & 30, 2017 at 2:00 pm. - "Fly Tying 101" - Get Hooked! Join angler Jeff Newton at the Visitor Center at 2:00pm for an introductory class on fly tying. Please bring all personal equipment available. Classes may vary based on interest and skill level of the participants.
Saturday, April 29, 2017 - "Let's Talk Turkey" - Yelps, purrs, cuts and cackles. Join a Park Ranger and learn about Wild Turkeys in the South Mountains. Participants will learn about characteristics, habitat, populations, life history and vocalizations. Program starts at 2:00 pm at the Visitor Center.

Lincoln County Parks & Recreation
The Lincoln County Parks & Recreation invite you to join them in the 5K on Saturday, April 15, 2017. The purpose of this event is to promote health and fitness here in Lincoln County and to invite the community to learn more about their local parks. The Foothills Post-Polio Support Group
The Foothills Post- Polio Support Group, will hold their meeting on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 6:00pm at the conference room of the Life Enrichment Center of Shelby. The conference room is located at the back of the building. The center is located off Hwy. 18 North on Life Enrichment Blvd, just north of Cornerstone Dentistry. If you are a polio survivor and would like to attend, we would love to see you there! Feel free to bring a caregiver with you. Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy's Drama Club is proud to present an original musical based on this timeless epic on Friday, April 21, 2017 and Sunday, April 23, 2017. Beowulf is a classic of Western Literature, adhering to the classical model of "The Hero's Journey" as outlined by Joseph Campbell. Script oversight was provided by our very own Martha Owens and Garder-Webb's Dr. David Parker, with new music written by TJ Director of Dramatics Jonathan Foust. This show is an energetic dance through Anglo Saxon literature, with those Dark-Age Rock-Stars the Danes and Geats. City of Kings Mountain "Earth Day"
There will be an Earth Day Celebration with the Gateway Trails in partnership with the City of Kings Mountain Special Events Saturday, April 22, 2017. Enjoy music by the Log Cabin String Band and others. Activities will be provided by over 15 community organizations and include crafts and jewelry making by Scrap Exchange, live music, Drum Circle, Petting Zoo, food vendors, upcycle artisans, and so much more! Scavenger Hunt to Benefit NC Baptist Children's Homes
A Scavenger Hunt to Benefit the NC Baptist Children's Homes (22 homes total) will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017. It begins and ends at Cornerstone Fellowship, 1186 Hudlow Rd, Forest City, NC. Registration Begins at 9:30am (coffee and donuts available).First Bike out at 10:00am. Last bike in by 1:00pm. Taco Bar Lunch at 1:00pm. Winning Team will be announced at 1:30pm and receives $100 Cash Prize. All modes of transportation. Do as much as time safely allows. Washington Outreach Ministry, Inc., will hold their 5th Annual Parade of Tables Dinner Featuring Elise Schenck, "Little Miss" Contestant, Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 6:00pm, at the Washington Elementary School, 907 Stony Point Rd., Shelby, NC. Admission is $40 for adults, $10 for students and to sponsor a table, $320. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Washington Outreach Food Ministry which helps feed many local families in need and provide scholarships to enable children to attend Washington Christian Academy Summer Camp, a nine-week Summer Math, Science and Health program. Without this program many of the children would miss the opportunity for academic enrichment during the summer months. Elise Schenck, the granddaughter of William and Elzine Schenck and 8-year old native of Tampa, FL travels to Shelby NC every summer to attend Washington Christian Academy. This experience has been invaluable to her and she would like to ensure that all of her old and hopefully new friends will be able to attend camp this summer.
