May 15, 2015 - Survivors drop-in begins a 4:00pm (t-shirt and goody bag pickup at this time) Survivors Walk begins at 6:00pm.
Friday, May 8, 2015 - Robert's Fishermen For a Cure Presents: "A Womanless Beauty Pageant". Starts at 6:30pm, at Crest High School Gym. Donation of $5. Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center
Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center, 100 T.R. Harris Drive, Shelby, NC will be holding the following events in March and April:
Bingo - Each Monday Night (except holidays). Doors open at 5:30 (no admittance after 7:00pm). Jackpot - 60 people or more $500, 60 people or less $300. Public invited 12 years old and up.
Older American's Month "Super Spectacular" - Friday, May 1, 2015, 3:00pm with Open House and Information Fair. Free hot dog supper beginning at 5:00pm to all raffle participants and contributors. All others, $5. Reverse drawing will begin at 6:00pm. Tickets, $50 each (for a chance to win $3000 grand prize). Other chances to win (4) $500 plus other prizes will be given away. Casar's Veterans Memorial
Casar's Veterans Memorial is in the works! They need your help! Please let them know of any Veterans in Casar, NC. This includes any war, or no war, and active military. They must have live in Casar at some point in their life. (If they haven't lived in Casar, they can still be on the Memorial for a small fee of $25). Corinth Baptist Church Food Pantry
Corinth Baptist Church Food Pantry in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina will have their first food distribution on Saturday, May 2, 2015, 10:00am - 12:00pm. Ellenboro Woman's Club
The Ellenboro Woman's Club will sponsor "The 8th Annual Ellenboro Town-Wide Yard Sale", Saturday, May 2, 2015, 7:00am until. This includes sellers space along Depot Street and in yards of residents who elect to participate. No fees are charged but sellers must provide their own display tables. Persons who wish to utilize space on Depot Street should be in self-selected spots by 6:30am.

Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Shelby
The social action team of the United Methodist Women at Aldersgate UMC invites you to join them Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 7:00pm to learn about the difficult and complex topic of human trafficking. The Executive Director of On Eagle's Wings Ministries, Emily Fitchpatrick, based in Charlotte NC, will be speaking along with Rev. Mark Andrews of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Hickory and Captain Joel Shores of the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department. Emily serves on the NC Human Trafficking Commission and has been recognized in Washington D.C. for her work with women and teens. She is the founder of Hope House in Gastonia, NC, dedicated to the rehabilitation of girls and women who have been trafficked. Rev. Andrews cycled from the coast of North Carolina to the coast of Oregon last summer and raised $17,000.00 to fight human trafficking in the process. He will share his journey in words and pictures and tell us how he came to be a part of the fight against this scourge. Cleveland County's Sheriff's department will fill us in on the local picture and what each of us should be aware of regarding this growing worldwide problem. The Cherryville Little Theatre
The Cherryville Little Theatre, 301 Academy Street, Cherryville, NC, would like to invite you to the auditions for "Shrek, Jr". The Cleveland County Arts Council, 111 S. Washington St., Shelby, NC, will hold this exhibit which features a rich and varied showcase of the talent that lies in Cleveland County. Local artists (18 and up) exhibit their work and compete for awards totaling $2,050 in this prestigious competition. Everyone in Cleveland County is invited to submit artwork! Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group meets on Mondays from 12:00-1:00pm, at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 502 W. Sumter St., Shelby, NC. Crouse VFD Women's Auxiliary Hotdog Benefit
The Women's Auxiliary of Crouse Volunteer Fire Department will host a Hotdog Benefit for liver transplant patient Gerald Boston on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 11:00am to 7:00pm. Cost is $5 for a plate of two hotdogs, chips, dessert and drink. The Auxiliary will take orders from businesses and deliver for orders of five or more hotdog plates. Businesses can call the fire department at 704-735-2247 to place their order. Boston is on the top of the list for a liver transplant and will have to have anti-rejection medicine which will cost over $3,000 a month for several months. His insurance does not pay for this medicine but will pay for his maintenance medicine. In addition to the hotdogs there will be a bake sale and a raffle for many different items including oil changes. The fire department is located at 2764 W Hwy 150 in Crouse, NC.
6th Annual Casar Masonic Charity Ride & Poker Run
The 6th Annual Casar Masonic Charity Ride & Poker Run will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015. Ride will benefit The Masonic Home for Children and Whitestone. Sign in by 10:00am. Bikes leave at 12:00pm. All bikes must return by 4:00pm. Will start and stop at Casar Fire Department, 5765 Casar Rd., Casar, NC. $20 per bike, $15 for rider hand and shirt. Shelby High School Class Reunion
The Shelby High School class of 1965 is planning a 50 year reunion Friday, May 15, 2015, and Saturday, May 16, 2015. Friday, from 6:00-8:00pm, there will be a "meet and greet" at the Don Gibson Theatre. Hor d'oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available. At 8:00pm, there will be an optional concert of R&B oldies featuring "Images." There is a $20 charge for the concert. On Saturday from 2:00-4:00pm, there will be a tour of Shelby High, and placing of a plaque marking a Ginko Tree given by this class. It will be followed by an ice cream social. That evening, from 6:00-7:00pm, there will be a social time and cash bar at the Legrand Center. From 7:00-8:00pm, there will be a meal catered by Smoke on the Square. And from 8:00-11:00pm, there will be a time to relive the memories. The cost for admission to the Legrand Center is $50 per person. Dress is casual for all events.
