        The Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center will once again provide free, tax preparation service at the Council on Aging/Senior Center 100 T.R. Harris Drive, Shelby, thru April 15, 9:00am - 4:00pm; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Call 704-482-3488 to schedule an appointment. Services Offered: 1. Free income tax preparation 2. Free printing (client copy) 3. Free e-filing (government copy). For basic U.S. and N.C. /S.C. returns: These documents are required to complete your taxes: 1. A picture I.D. 2. Social Security Card for all names on tax form (Not a copy) 3. Last year’s Tax Return 4. All W-2 forms – interest statements…etc.

Cleveland County Arts Council
        Cleveland County Arts Council, 111 S. Washington St., Shelby, NC will be having a “Student Art Exhibit & Competition”. Exhibit Dates: March 21 - April 18, Mon.-Fri., 9:00am - 5:30pm. Rutherford  Community Theatre
        Rutherford Community Theatre presents a dinner theatre performance of Hot Dames, Hot Lead at the Green River Plantation Gate House Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6. “Project Isaiah Fundraiser” LeGrand Center
        Maranatha Baptist Church, 413 Polkville Rd., Shelby, has organized Project Isaiah. Isaiah Scruggs is a 13 year old teenager who recently fell out of a tree and became paralyzed from the waist down. To help with medical expenses and need housing renovations to accomodate Isaiah, on Saturday, April 6, 11:00am to 7:00pm, a spaghetti dinner will be served at the LeGrand Center in Shelby. Plates are $10 per person and tickets may be purchased in advance. Smoke on the Square and other businesses have caught the vision to help. How about you? Shelby American Legion Post 82 Fundraiser
        Shelby American Legion Post 82 will hold a “Cruise-In for Vets” on Saturday, April 6, 10:00am - 2:00pm, at the Legion Building, 1628 South Lafayette Street,  Shelby. All Makes, Models, Motorcycles, if it rolls, it’s welcome! The event is open to the public. There will be door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, and hot dog plates for sale. DJ--Rocking Rick--will provide entertainment. Donations will be accepted for this fundraiser will support American Legion programs. Rain date is April 13.
Kings Mountain High School Baseball Program
        The Baseball Program at Kings Mountain High School is looking for alumni to play in the 2013 Alumni Baseball Game. On Saturday, April 6, the Kings Mountain High School Baseball will hold its 2nd annual Baseball Alumni Game at the Lancaster Field, Kings Mountain High School. This year’s game will be dedicated to the memory of Coach Tony Leigh. The game will start at 6:00pm and batting practice at 4:00pm. The Home Run Derby will start at 5:15. The Broad River Genealogical Society
        The Broad River Genealogical Society will be having a presentation at the Neal Senior Center at 3:00pm, April 14. All visitors are welcome at no charge. Michael Hardy will be speaking on how Charlotte and this area played an important role in the Civil War. Mr. Hardy has written 16 books on the Civil War including books on the 37th Infantry and the 58th. Light refleshments will be served.
Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care & Health
        Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care & Health, 110 Life Enrichment Blvd., Shelby, just off Fallston Road, will be having their monthly meeting of dementia caregivers, Tuesday, April 16. The meeting, which is free of charge, is scheduled to begin at 5:30, but latecomers are welcome, and end at 7:00. “Safety for the Person with Dementia” will be the program topic. Because of confusion and inability to learn new information along with failing eyesight, a person with dementia faces risks at home and in the community. A free sitter service is available for the person with dementia, but a reservation for the sitter service must be made by Tuesday, April 9 by calling 704-484-0405. JROTC Drill Championship, Shelby
        The 7th annual, Sgt. Raymond Horton JROTC Invitational Drill championships will be held on Saturday April 20, at the Cleveland Mall, Shelby NC. This years event has been renamed in honor of Sgt. Raymond Horton, USMC. The event is sponsored by the Foothills Detachment, Marine Corps League, Shelby NC. Shelby Lions Club “Walk Across Shelby”
        The Shelby Lions Club has planned a “Walk Across Shelby” for April 20. This is part of North Carolina Lions “Walk Across NC” event, when Lions and community residents are urged to walk across the state from Murphy to Manteo. The Shelby Club will meet  at West Warren Manor (934 West Warren Street) about 9:45am and  walk to Lions Senior Village (211 North Morgan Street) and back. This nearly 3 mile roundtrip will contribute toward total miles walked across North Carolina. The public is encouraged to participate. Shelby Lions want at least 20 people to turn out, making a total of 60 miles. The club wants to raise one thousand dollars to  support humanitarian services for the blind and visually impaired. Those who want to to sign up sponsors for their walk or to make a contribution to Shelby Lions Club for this walk, can  send  a check to Shelby Lions, PO Box  1082, Shelby, NC 28151.
