More Info: Get Hooked! Join a volunteer angler at the Visitor Center for an introductory class on fly fishing. Please bring all personal equipment available. Classes may vary based on interest and skill level of the participants. North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission fishing regulations still apply. What: August Crouse Community History & Photo Project monthly meeting with Don "Butch" Abernathy

More Info: Local Gaston County Historian Don "Butch" Abernathy Crouse, NC has been scheduled as the guest speaker. Butch will share a special presentation titled "Iron Making in Lincoln/Gaston Counties in the 1790 to 1870 Era". Attendees will learn about iron making, marketing of finished goods, and the local families involved in working the iron furnaces and forges. Butch will also discuss what led to the ultimate decline and abandonment of the iron industry in this part of North Carolina. Butch was born in Lincoln County but grew up and lives in Gaston County. He attended school in Stanley, graduated from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C. and is currently employed by Gaston County Dyeing and Machine in Mount Holly, N.C.
