Food Distribution Day, Casar
Corinth Baptist Church in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina will have a Food Distribution, Saturday, August 15, 2015, 9:00am - 12:00 noon. Corinth Baptist Church is located at 324 Corinth Church Road, Casar, NC. The distribution will be in the basement of the new fellowship building. They will have food distributions the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. The clothing closet will also be open during this time. Everyone welcome as we share our ministries with the community.
Crossroads Rescue Mission, Shelby
Crossroads Rescue Mission will be holding their annual book bag giveaway for needy children of the Cleveland County area. The book bag giveaway will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Bethel Baptist Church, 606 South Dekalb Street, Shelby, NC, 10:00am until around 2:00pm.
Foothills Post-Polio Support Group
The Foothills Post-Polio Support Group, formerly called the Cleveland County Post-Polio Support Group, will hold the August meeting at the conference room of the Life Enrichment Center of Shelby on Monday, August 17, 2015 at 6:00 in the evening. The conference room is located at the back of the building. The center is located off Hwy 18 North on Life Enrichment Blvd, just north of Cornerstone Dentistry. Each person attending should bring his/her own meal. Drinks- coffee and water, will be provided. The program for August will be presented by Mrs. Patsy Cheng on the benefits of Zumba exercises. Casar Masonic Lodge Golf Tournament
Casar Masonic Lodge will hold it's 9th Annual Golf Tournament Captain's Choice Saturday, August 22, 2015, 9:00am, check in at 8:00am. Shotgun start. The Schiele Museum of Natural History, Gastonia
The Schiele Museum of Natural History, 1500 E. Garrison Blvd., Gastonia, NC, will be celebrating "The Tryon Resolves", their Independence Day, Sunday, August 23, 1-5pm. The Tryon Resolves, a local Declaration of Independence, was adopted by citizens of their area almost 11 months before the US Declaration of Independence. Visit the Backcountry Farm to see black powder firing demonstrations and re-enactors mustering for a militia. At 4:00pm, hear a reading of the Tryon Resolves, featuring 49 names of local pioneers who bravely signed for freedom. A feature presentation by the NC Humanities Council's road Scholar, Randell Jones, will be held at 3:00pm in the NC Hall.

5K Walk - Celebrate Recovery Awareness
Second Baptist, Shelby, NC will sponsor a 5k/walk run to be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 to raise awareness for the ministry of Celebrate Recovery. It is their desire that participants and those who attend this event will learn about Celebrate Recovery and in turn help spread the word about this blessed ministry that has helped hundreds of thousands of people, just like you and me overcome our past hurts, hang ups and habits. All entry fees will go to cover the cost of the event and fund needs for the ministry of Celebrate Recovery. Piecemakers Quilt Guild
The Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets 1st Wednesday each month at the Senior Center at Gaston College, Lincolnton NC, at 9:30am. Come meet us and join our quilt guild. Lawndale Historical Museum
The Lawndale Historical Museum will be holding an Antique Evaluation on each Sunday through October from 2:00-4:00pm. Steven Costner of Shelby, NC will be on hand to evaluate old coins. Also, Gary Byrd from Morganton, NC will evaluate antique items. (No items too large to carry in the museum please.)
Habitat for Humanity Cleveland County
Habitat is taking initial applications for its 2016 Home Build now through August 15, 2015. The applicant must be able to make no interest house payments of $475 to $525 a month, must have a real need for better housing, must live in Cleveland County, and must be willing to partner with Habitat by completing "sweat equity" on the home and by attending Homeowner Workshops. The typical Habitat home has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and is approximately 1100 square feet. Applications may be picked up at the Habitat ReStore, 323 W. Grover St., Shelby or to receive an application by mail, call the Habitat office at 704-482-6200. In order to be considered, completed initial applications must be received by the Habitat office no later than August 15th. Habitat is an Equal Housing Opportunity organization.
Child Support Announces Anonymous Tip Line
The Cleveland County Child Support Office has opened a new Tip Line to allow the public to anonymously report the whereabouts and any other information of noncustodial parents who may be avoiding establishment and/or enforcement of a child support order. Tipsters will be able to call the Tip Line 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They will not be asked to leave their name or any other identifying information. When calling the Tip Line, helpful information would include the noncustodial parent's full name, date of birth, current address, phone number, place of employment, vehicle tag number, or any other information that could lead to the location of the person. The number for the Tip Line is 704-487-0661 and when prompted for an extension, dial extension 727.

Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group
Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group meets on Mondays from 12:00-1:00pm, at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 502 W. Sumter St., Shelby, NC. The purpose of al-anon is to provide support to friends and families of alcoholics. Anyone who is affected by someone else's use of alcohol or drugs is invited to attend. REUNIONS
The Piedmont High School Annual Reunion
The Piedmont High School Annual Reunion is Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Burns Middle School. Registration and a period of socialization begin at 4:00pm. Dinner will be served at 5:30pm followed by a period of business and musical program entitled "Long, Long Ago". Reservation must be made and prepaid by August 7, 2015. Shelby High School Class of 1955
The Shelby High School Class of 1955 has planned their 60th reunion on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22, 2015. Friday, August 21: early arrivals will meet at Alston Bridges BBQ at 3:00pm for a 'taste of hometown BBQ'. Friday evening there will be a performance by "Elvis and his Band" at the Don Gibson Theatre. The lounge opens at 6:30 and doors to the theatre open at 7:30pm with the concert beginning at 8:00pm. Saturday noon: classmates will meet in the private dining room for a luncheon at Ichiban, 1712 East Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC. An afternoon tour is planned after the luncheon. Saturday night will be a social time and dinner at the Don Gibson Theatre. Doors to the lounge will open at 5:00pm with hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and "meet and greet". 6:00pm: dinner of BBQ pork and chicken with all the trimmings will be catered by Harry McKee. After the meal, class pictures will be made. Reservations for special seating at the "Elvis" show on Friday must be made by July 10, 2015.
