Casar Masonic Lodge Golf Tournament
Casar Masonic Lodge will hold it's 9th Annual Golf Tournament Captain's Choice Saturday, August 22, 2015, 9:00am, check in at 8:00am. Shotgun start. Located at Pine Mountain Golf Course, 2961 Pine Mountain Drive, Connelly Springs, NC. This will be for: Four Man Team, $200 per team entry fee; to support the Masonic Children's Home and Masonic and Eastern Star Home. Cleveland Lincoln County Rose Society
Cleveland Lincoln County Rose Society will meet at Sunday, August 23, 2015, at 2:30pm, at the Cleveland County Office Building, 130 South Post Road next to Food Lion. Holly, from Holly's Flowers, will give a program on arranging flowers. Fred Wright will give a short slide program on his new hybridized roses which are available on line at K & M Roses in MS. They will finalize plans for their upcoming annual rose show Saturday, September 26, 2015. The rose show this year will be at the Cleveland County Office Building and open to the public from 1-4pm. Visitors are always welcome and refreshments will be served.
The Schiele Museum of Natural History, Gastonia
The Schiele Museum of Natural History, 1500 E. Garrison Blvd., Gastonia, NC, will be celebrating "The Tryon Resolves", their Independence Day, Sunday, August 23, 1-5pm. The Tryon Resolves, a local Declaration of Independence, was adopted by citizens of their area almost 11 months before the US Declaration of Independence. Visit the Backcountry Farm to see black powder firing demonstrations and re-enactors mustering for a militia. At 4:00pm, hear a reading of the Tryon Resolves, featuring 49 names of local pioneers who bravely signed for freedom. A feature presentation by the NC Humanities Council's road Scholar, Randell Jones, will be held at 3:00pm in the NC Hall.
Upper Cleveland Bulldogs Football Booster Club
The Upper Cleveland Bulldogs Football Booster Club would like to announce "Last Chance Sign-Ups for football and cheerleading". NC Cooperative Extension
The NC Cooperative Extension will be holding a "Funds For Farming" Information Session, Thursday, August 27, 2015, at 5:30pm, in the auditorium of the County Office Building, located at 130 S. Post Road, Shelby. Learn about cost-share programs, grants, loans, tax programs, and easements for farming. Representatives from the USDA, Cooperative Extension, Soil and Water Conservation District, NCDA, Forest Service, Farm Credit, and Foothills Conservancy will provide brief overviews of programs offered by their agencies.
Shelby Lions Club Annual Charity Golf Event
The Shelby Lions Club will host their 4th Annual Charity Golf Event, Friday, August 28, 2015, at River Bend Golf Course. Registration 1:00pm. 4-person Captain's Choice, $240/team. 5K Walk - Celebrate Recovery Awareness
Second Baptist, Shelby, NC will sponsor a 5k/walk run to be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 to raise awareness for the ministry of Celebrate Recovery. It is their desire that participants and those who attend this event will learn about Celebrate Recovery and in turn help spread the word about this blessed ministry that has helped hundreds of thousands of people, just like you and me overcome our past hurts, hang ups and habits. All entry fees will go to cover the cost of the event and fund needs for the ministry of Celebrate Recovery. Broad River Genealogical Society, Shelby
The Broad River Genealogical Society would like for you to join them at Neal Senior Center, 100 T. R. Harris Dr., Shelby, NC, on Sunday, September 13, 2015, at 3:00pm, as they present Author Joe Epley, who will discuss his book "A Passel of Hate"; which is the story of Col. Andrew Hampton, Commander of the Rutherford County Liberty Men during the defense of Charleston and in the battle of Kings Mountain. Joe Epley is recognized internationally for his leadership in public relations. Before his retirement, he served as president of the Public Relations Society of America and was a cofounder and global chair of the Worldcom Public Relations Group. After he retired, he has turned his time and mind to researching and writing. (Park and enter at the rear of the building).
Piecemakers Quilt Guild
The Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets 1st Wednesday each month at the Senior Center at Gaston College, Lincolnton NC, at 9:30am. Come meet us and join our quilt guild. Lawndale Historical Museum
The Lawndale Historical Museum will be holding an Antique Evaluation on each Sunday through October from 2:00-4:00pm. Steven Costner of Shelby, NC will be on hand to evaluate old coins. Also, Gary Byrd from Morganton, NC will evaluate antique items. (No items too large to carry in the museum please.)
Child Support Announces Anonymous Tip Line
The Cleveland County Child Support Office has opened a new Tip Line to allow the public to anonymously report the whereabouts and any other information of noncustodial parents who may be avoiding establishment and/or enforcement of a child support order. Tipsters will be able to call the Tip Line 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They will not be asked to leave their name or any other identifying information. When calling the Tip Line, helpful information would include the noncustodial parent's full name, date of birth, current address, phone number, place of employment, vehicle tag number, or any other information that could lead to the location of the person. The number for the Tip Line is 704-487-0661 and when prompted for an extension, dial extension 727.

Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group
Shelby No-Name Al-Anon Family Group meets on Mondays from 12:00-1:00pm, at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 502 W. Sumter St., Shelby, NC. The purpose of al-anon is to provide support to friends and families of alcoholics. Anyone who is affected by someone else's use of alcohol or drugs is invited to attend. REUNIONS
Shelby High School Class of 1955
The Shelby High School Class of 1955 has planned their 60th reunion on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22, 2015. Friday, August 21: early arrivals will meet at Alston Bridges BBQ at 3:00pm for a 'taste of hometown BBQ'. Friday evening there will be a performance by "Elvis and his Band" at the Don Gibson Theatre. The lounge opens at 6:30 and doors to the theatre open at 7:30pm with the concert beginning at 8:00pm. Saturday noon: classmates will meet in the private dining room for a luncheon at Ichiban, 1712 East Dixon Blvd., Shelby, NC. An afternoon tour is planned after the luncheon. Saturday night will be a social time and dinner at the Don Gibson Theatre. Doors to the lounge will open at 5:00pm with hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and "meet and greet". 6:00pm: dinner of BBQ pork and chicken with all the trimmings will be catered by Harry McKee. After the meal, class pictures will be made. Reservations for special seating at the "Elvis" show on Friday must be made by July 10, 2015.
