Children’s Miracle Network Golf Tournament
   Children’s Miracle Network Golf Tournament Sponsored by: Walmart Store 1034 and Walmart DC 6070 to benefit: Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Helping Local Kids. It will be at Deerbrook Golf Course, September 4, 9:00am. Captain’s Choice (4 person Team).  Entry Fee $200 per team/ $50 per person. Fee includes: Cart, green fees, goodie bags, and lunch. Cleveland Community College, Shelby
        Cleveland Community College will host College Night for area high school students on Wednesday, September 4, in the Student Activities Center on the campus of CCC from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.  Along with Cleveland Community College, approximately 60 other colleges and universities will be represented.
According to CCC Admissions Counselor Brinson Blanton, representatives from both public and private institutions will be on-hand to discuss all aspects of their schools with prospective students. The University of North Carolina, UNCC, Appalachian State University, North Carolina A&T, and Gardner-Webb University are just a few of the institutions that will be represented.
        “The purpose of College Night is to offer students an opportunity to gather information on all of their college options at one location. One location is not only more convenient for students, but also the college representatives which increases participation from both groups,” Blanton adds. Lost Playwrights, Hendersonville

The Bostic Lincoln Center Fundraiser
        The Bostic Lincoln Center will have its  third annual fundraising sale Saturday, September 7, 8:00am until, at the Bostic Park Picnic Shelter, Bostic, NC. Community Yard Sale & Country Breakfast, Lawndale
        Zion Hill Baptist, Church, 8173 Old NC 18, Lawndale, five miles south of South Mountain State Park will be having a community yard sale and country breakfast on Saturday, September 7.  Breakfast begins at 7:00am and the yard sale begins at 8:00am until noon.  Rent a space for $10. Pregnancy Resource Center of Cleveland County “Walk for Life”
        Pregnancy Resource Center will be having it’s annual “Walk For Life”, Saturday, September 7, 9:30am - 11:30am, at Bethel Baptist Church, 606 S. DeKalb Street, Shelby, NC. The Walk for Life is an annual event that allows individuals, families and churches within the community to participate in the life saving work of the Pregnancy Resource Center of Cleveland County. Funds raised help the Center provide alternatives to abortion for moms, dads and families facing crisis pregnancies in Cleveland County. The Walk for Life also reminds us that there is still work to be done in the fight for the unborn, and that everyone who participates is making a difference. Broad River Genealogical Society of Cleveland County
        The Broad River Genealogical Society of Cleveland County will be having a public presentation on September 8, 3:00pm at the Neal Senior Center in Shelby. We will have the Lincoln Center from Bostic, Rutherford County speaking on why they believe Abraham Lincoln was born in Rutherford County. We will also have Doug Mayes long time anchor on WBTV channel 3 and WSOC channel 9 to introduce our speaker. Mr. Mayes will show a short video from 1990 that was on WSOC on the Lincoln Center. All visitors are welcomed, and we will have light refreshments after the presentation. Mark your calendars.
National Alliance on Mental Illness
        National Alliance on Mental Illness, will be offering a Free Mental Illness Education Class that will benefit parents, grandparents, spouses, adult children, siblings and friends of individuals with: Major Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Panic Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and Co-occuring Brain Disorders and Addictive Disorders. These six once a week series of 4-1/2 hour classes are structured to help families understand and support individuals with serious mental illness while maintaining their own well being. The course is taught by a team of trained NAMI family member volunteers who know what it’s like to have a loved one struggling with one or more of these brain disorders. There is no cost to participate in this NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program. Over 300,500 people in the US, Canada, Italy and Mexico have completed this course. Cleveland County Memorial Library
        Have You Ever Been Bitten by the Travel Bug? The Friends of the Library have an exciting opportunity that will benefit the Friends and their efforts to help the public library. In conjunction with Collette Vacations, the Friends are offering a trip to the Northern National Parks June 13-20, 2014. If you haven’t seen the majestic Grand Teton Mountains, Yellowstone National Park or Salt Lake City, then don’t miss out on this exciting adventure. Four nights will be spent in beautiful Jackson, Wyoming giving you plenty of time to explore Jackson Hole and the surrounding mountains. There will be an informational meeting for those interested in this trip on September 10, 2013 at 6:30pm in the Plaster Meeting Room at the Main Library. Kings Mountain Historical Musem Fundraiser
        Kings Mountain Historical Museum will once again host their “10th Annual Reverse Raffle & Auctions Fundriaser”, Saturday, September 14, 2013. Tickets on sale starting August 16, 2013. The new location this year is the H. Lawrence Patrick Senior Life & Conference Center, 909 East King Street, Kings Mountain.  Doors open at 5:30pm. Join your community for a fun night in support of the museum! With your $100 ticket purchase you not only get dinner for 2, but a chance to win the grand prize of $10,000. Back to School Fundraiser Pageant, Kings Mtn.
        BreAnn Jenkins, the reigning Little Miss North Carolina United States will be hosting a fundraiser beauty pageant September 14, 2013, in downtown Kings Mountain at the gazebo. This pageant will be opened to girls ages Birth to 21 years. The contestants will be competing in their choice of back to school wear and optional photogenic. No pageant clothes need, just a fun outfit your child would wear to school. This would be great for beginners, no pageant experience necessary. School related crowns, fun prizes and no one leaves empty handed. This pageant is a fundraiser to raise money for school supplies and collect school supplies for children in Cleveland County who may not have the resources to have the items they need to return to school. Piecemakers Quilt Guild
        Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Lincoln County Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, NC, in room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. We also have a new class that meets on the second Thursday of each month from 10:00am to 3:00pm to provide one to one instruction to beginning quilters. Parents Without Partners, Shelby
       PWP meets every Monday night at 7:00 pm. at the Shelby Presbyterian Church for educational programs and at other times as scheduled for monthly social activities including: dances, plays, and concerts. Mental Health Association of Cleveland County
        Survivors of Suicide Support Group meets twice a month, with a daytime and evening meeting. The Evening Group meets the 2nd Monday of every month from 6:30pm - 8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (502 W. Sumter Street, Shelby, NC).  The Daytime Group meets the last Tuesday of every month from 11:30am - 1:30pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library (104 Howie Drive, Shelby, NC). Sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County, this group provides a safe and confidential place for those who have experienced the unique loss of suicide to find help, healing and hope. Our group is open to those who have lost a family member, friend or co-worker to suicide. Kiwanis Club, Shelby
        Kiwanis Club of Shelby is a group of professionals who are involved in the community and looking to change Cleveland County, one child at a time. This fundraising and project oriented club meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at noon at Deer Brook Restaurant, 201 Deer Brook Drive, Shelby, NC; or the 2nd Thursday evening of every month at 5:30pm at Mi Pueblito Mexican Restaurant, 213 West Warren Street, Shelby, NC.
