Piecemakers Quilt Guild         
   Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10AM - 12PM at the Lincoln County Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, room 319. They teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. The meeting will be in the multipurpose room in The Senior Center. Solid Rock Garden, Lawndale
  Solid Rock Community garden in Lawndale will have regular work nights on Monday evenings at 6:30 pm, now through the summer months. If you enjoy gardening and want to help grow nutritious food for our neighbors - please join us. Singles Dinner Club, Shelby
  Singles Dinner Club (ages 45 and up) will meet the first Friday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Golden Corral in Shelby. All new members are welcome. The Kings Mountain Historical Museum’s Latest Exhibit
 The Kings Mountain Historical Museum’s Latest Exhibit, Go Tell It on the Mountain: The Churches of Kings Mountain, NC will be on display until September 8, 2012 .  The exhibit brings together artifacts and photographs from several of the area churches, chronicling the growth of organized religion in the area. The exhibit will be on display at the Kings Mountain Historical Museum (100 E. Mountain Street, Kings Mountain, NC 28086), Tuesday - Saturday, 10AM - 4PM.     The Kings Mountain Historical Museum will once again host their Annual Reverse Raffle & Auctions at the American Legion, 155 York Road, Kings Mountain starting at 6pm on Saturday, September 15, 2012.  New this year, the event will include live entertainment by the local music group, Harvest. Tickets cost $100 for 2 people, includes dinner and a chance to win the grand prize of $10,000. Every 10th ticket drawn will win a door prize. All paid ticket holders are eligible and need not be present to win. Funds generated from this event go towards supporting the Museum’s mission of informing the public of the history of the City of Kings Mountain and surrounding areas by preserving and exhibiting the collection in which we have been entrusted. The Shelby Lions Club
   The  Shelby  Lions  Club  has  made  changes  in  its  meeting  schedule. The  first  Tuesday  of  each  month  will  be  a  business  meeting held  at  the  Lions  Senior  Village  on  North  Morgan  Street. The  regular  membership  meeting  will  be  held  on  the  second  Tuesday of  each  month  at  Deerbrook  Country  Club. Shelby Lions are making this change to encourage local residents to take a look at the club and consider getting involved.  Shelby Lions are active in the community and offer fellowship and fun to members.  The meeting schedule change will help us to keep our membership dues low, reduce the monthly meeting time, and still offer the fellowship and community involvement that many are looking for.    “Reflections” Sharing group, a grief sharing group that meets for six weeks will hold meetings on Tuesdays, September 4 & 11, at 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building.         Memory Bear Workshop - Participants will have the opportunity to make a teddy bear out of a loved one’s shirt or other article of clothing. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult.         Camp Mostly Smiles - This is a one-day retreat for children ages 6 – 16 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Participants will have the opportunity to express their grief through writing, crafts, play activities and group discussions. South Mountains State Park Connelly Springs 
   South Mountains State Park will be having the following Upcoming Environmental Programs:
Saturday, September 1 - “Skulls and Skins” - Look for a Park Ranger and his interesting display of skulls and skins at the Visitor Center.  Drop by between 11:00-12:00 and hear about some of the animals that call South Mountains State Park home.
    Saturday, September 1 - “Let’s Talk Turkey - Yelps, purrs, cuts and cackles.  Join a Park Ranger and learn about Wild Turkeys in the South Mountains.  Participants will learn about characteristics, habitat, populations, life history and vocalizations.  Meet at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm.
Sunday, September 2 - “Bats” -  Are bats blind?  Do they fly into your hair?  Do they turn into vampires?  Join a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm to learn some Bat facts and have an opportunity to view some Bats.
Saturday, September 8 - “Bats” -  Are bats blind?  Do they fly into your hair?  Do they turn into vampires?  Join a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 11:00 am to learn some Bat facts and have an opportunity to view some Bats.
Saturday, September 8 - “Box Turtles” - Want to learn more about North Carolina’s state reptile?  If so, join a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm and participate in a statewide turtle study as you search for box turtles.  This program includes indoor & outdoor activities.

Mental Health Association Support Groups
   The Mental Health Association in Cleveland County sponsors a Support Group for Survivors of Suicide. It meets the last Tuesday of every month, 11:30am - 1:30 pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library. This support group offers support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide. All members of the group, including the facilitator, have experienced this unique loss.    Family-to-Family Caregiver Support Group, meets every third Tuesday of the month, 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the Cleveland County Red Cross (1333 Fallston Road, Shelby, NC 28150) Co-sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County and NAMI Rutherford/Cleveland, this support group offers a safe space for close relatives of persons suffering from a severe mental illness to share their experience with others in a similar situation. Mauney Memorial Library, Kings Mountain 
   Mauney Memorial Library in Kings Mountain will be having free computer classes at 100 South Piedmont Avenue, Kings Mountain. GSCT Presents Free Season Opener
      Join Greater Shelby Community Theatre on Saturday, September 1 (Labor Day Weekend) for a “staycation”. Pregnancy Resource Center, Cleveland Co.
   Pregnancy Resource Center of Cleveland County’s Annual “Walk for Life” will be on Saturday, September 8, 9:30 am. The event takes place at Bethel Baptist Church, 606 S. DeKalb Street, Shelby. There will be games and special activities for the kids, Christian music, and free food and drinks for those who participate. This event allows individuals, families and churches within the community to participate in the Life saving work of the Pregnancy Resource Center of Cleveland County. NAMI Rutherford-Cleveland
   Free Course Offers Help for Families of Mentally Ill. The National Alliance on Mental Illness, NAMI Rutherford-Cleveland is offering a FREE 6-week family education course. The  six (5 hour) classes are once a week and begin on Sunday, September 9, from 1:00–5:45pm at The United Way of Rutherford County, 668 Withrow Road, Forest City, NC. Forest City – A spouse is in and out of mental hospitals  suffering from Schizophrenia.  A grown child returns home to live with his/her parents because manic depression does not allow him to function in society. A young daughter is diagnosed as suffering with major depression. Where do families turn when they are faced with the problems that come when dealing with a close family member suffering with a mental illness on a daily basis? Persons who will benefit most are the parents, grandparents, spouses, siblings and adult children of someone they love who is suffering with one or more of these illnesses:  Depression (unipolar); Bipolar (manic depression); Schizophrenia; Schizoaffective disorder; Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD); Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD); Co-occurring Brain Disorder and Addictive Disorders.
