Piecemakers Quilt Guild         
   Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10AM - 12PM at the Lincoln County Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, room 319. They teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. The meeting will be in the multipurpose room in The Senior Center. Solid Rock Garden, Lawndale
  Solid Rock Community garden in Lawndale will have regular work nights on Monday evenings at 6:00 pm, now through the summer months. If you enjoy gardening and want to help grow nutritious food for our neighbors - please join us. Singles Dinner Club, Shelby
  Singles Dinner Club (ages 45 and up) will meet the first Friday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Golden Corral in Shelby. All new members are welcome. The Kings Mountain Historical Museum’s Latest Exhibit
 The Kings Mountain Historical Museum’s Latest Exhibit, Go Tell It on the Mountain: The Churches of Kings Mountain, NC will be on display until September 8, 2012 .  The exhibit brings together artifacts and photographs from several of the area churches, chronicling the growth of organized religion in the area. The exhibit will be on display at the Kings Mountain Historical Museum (100 E. Mountain Street, Kings Mountain, NC 28086), Tuesday - Saturday, 10AM - 4PM. South Mtn. State Park Environmental Programs
   Saturday, August 11 - “Tree ID Hike” - Join a Park Ranger for a 1.0 mile hike along the Hemlock Nature Trail.  Tree identification will be the focus of this hike.  Meet at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am.
  Saturday, August 11 -“Black Bears: Majestic Creatures of the Wild”. How dangerous are black bears?  Can we coexist?  Why are black bears so unique?  What should I do if I see a black bear?  The program will begin at 2:00 pm in the Visitor Center.
  Sunday, August 12 - Are bats blind? Do they fly into your hair? Do they turn into vampires? Join a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 p.m. to learn some Bat facts and have an opportunity to view some Bats.

The Shelby Lions Club
   The  Shelby  Lions  Club  has  made  changes  in  its  meeting  schedule. The  first  Tuesday  of  each  month  will  be  a  business  meeting held  at  the  Lions  Senior  Village  on  North  Morgan  Street. The  regular  membership  meeting  will  be  held  on  the  second  Tuesday of  each  month  at  Deerbrook  Country  Club. Shelby Lions are making this change to encourage local residents to take a look at the club and consider getting involved.  Shelby Lions are active in the community and offer fellowship and fun to members.  The meeting schedule change will help us to keep our membership dues low, reduce the monthly meeting time, and still offer the fellowship and community involvement that many are looking for. Mental Health Association Support Groups
   The Mental Health Association in Cleveland County sponsors a Support Group for Survivors of Suicide. It meets the last Tuesday of every month, 11:30am - 1:30 pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library. This support group offers support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide. All members of the group, including the facilitator, have experienced this unique loss.    Family-to-Family Caregiver Support Group, meets every third Tuesday of the month, 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the Cleveland County Red Cross (1333 Fallston Road, Shelby, NC 28150) Co-sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County and NAMI Rutherford/Cleveland, this support group offers a safe space for close relatives of persons suffering from a severe mental illness to share their experience with others in a similar situation. First Presbyterian Church, Cherryville

Hospice Cleveland County 
   “Reflections” Sharing group, a grief sharing group that meets for six weeks will hold meetings on Tuesdays, August 14, 21, 28 and September 4, 11, 2012  at 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building. There is no cost and is open to anyone who has lost a loved one. Please RSVP to ext. 166 if you plan to attend.

Cherryville Little Theatre Presents “Disney’s Little Mermaid, Jr.” 
   The Cherryville Little Theater will be presenting the production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Jr. on Friday and Saturday, August 10th, & 11th at 7 PM. Cowboy Care Bull Riding
  Will feature a special event on Saturday, August 11th at Prices Arena (4852 Dallas Cherryville Highway). All proceeds will go to benefit wounded Veterans. Casar Masonic Lodge to hold Tournament 
   Casar Masonic Lodge will hold a Golf Tournament at Woodbridge Golf Course, 1007 New Camp Creek Church Road, Kings Mountain, August 25, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. Check in at 7:00 a.m. Shotgun start. Neurologist to Speak on Parkinson’s
      Neurologist Dr. Danielle Englert will discuss deep brain stimulation to relieve symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease Tuesday, August 28 at Life Enrichment Center in Shelby. Dr. Englert is affiliated with Carolinas Medical Center. The program, which begins at 6 p.m., is free of charge and open to anyone interested in Parkinson’s. GSCT Presents Free Season Opener
