South Mountains State Park Programs

Hospice Cleveland Co. – Upcoming Events

Relay For Life
        We will have a Relay for Life float in the Shelby Christmas parade. We want to invite any cancer survivors who are interested to ride on the float. Relay for Life supporters are also welcome to participate by riding or walking with the float. Anyone interested should contact Lucille Holland at 704-300-6781.
        Crest High School Relay for Life Team – Saturday, December 11th – 9 am - 12 pm at Crest High Gym. A variety of wrapping paper, bows, and ribbons will be available. Bring presents to Ed Peeler Gymnasium at Crest High School. Donations will be accepted for our service.

New Support Group for Depression and Bipolar Disorder
        Now people living with depression or bipolar disorder will have a new place to find hope, help and support. The local chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) will host regular, confidential, peer-led, self-help support group meetings on Tuesdays from 6:30 – 8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Shelby. DBSA support groups are open to anyone who is diagnosed with a mood disorder, has a family member or friend who is diagnosed, or who thinks they might have depression or bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression). DBSA support groups are not run by professionals, but instead offer peer-to-peer support which is an important component of recovery from mental illness for many people. DBSA is the nation’s leading patient-directed organization focusing on the most prevalent mental illnesses – depression and bipolar disorder. The organization has over 400 independent local chapters that operate over 1000 self-help support groups around the United States. Auditions for Hats, the Musical!
        AUDITIONS for HATS, the Musical! Greater Shelby Community Theatre is holding auditions for HATS, the Musical, which celebrates women over 50 and the mission of the Red Hat Society. Auditions will be held Friday Dec. 3 from 7:30-9 and Sat. Dec.4 and Sun. Dec. 5 from 2-5pm in the basement of the CC Arts Council,111 S.Washington St., Shelby. Harvest Works Christmas Bazaar
        We would invite you to come out and shop at our Christmas Bazaar, Sunday, Dec. 5th from 1:00 pm ‘till 5:00 pm at Harvest Works, located at 891 North Post Road, Shelby. We will have hand made Christmas Items (made by our Lifeskills group), Florist quality wreaths, center pieces, hand painted ornaments, hand tied bows, napkin  rings, etc., all reasonably priced.         IRS Seeking Volunteers to Assist Low-Income Families Interested in helping your community to prepare income tax returns free of charge? As a volunteer, you’ll provide free income tax help for low- to moderate-income families who need assistance preparing their federal and state income tax returns. More than 50,000 people volunteered for the 2010 filing season and prepared 1.8 million returns. How does this program work? If you say yes, you’ll be assigned to work with a sponsoring organization, first to receive training and then to begin volunteering at a site in your community. Training is offered both online and in the classroom. Sites are located in community locations where the need is greatest, not in IRS offices. Looking for more information? Fallston Christmas Parade &
Light Up The Town
        The Fallston Christmas Parade will be Saturday, December 11th at 2:00 pm. Line up at 1:30 pm at Fallston Elementary School. Also: Fallston Annual “Light Up the Town” will be held between December 13th thru 17th.         Come join Rutherfordton Senior Center and Shelby City Park for a trip you will not forget: Monday, December 13th. Rutherford County All-Star Football Team Fundraiser
        The Rutherford County All-Star Football team will be holding Two Car Wash fundraisers this weekend to raise funds to attend the UFIC Football tourney in Greenville SC. Locations are McDonalds in Spindale from 9:00 am-2:00 pm and also A Car Wash and Hot-Dog sale at Auto Zone in Forest City from 11:00 am-6:00 pm on Monday, December 27th. Donations are Greatly Appreciated.
