City Park Winter Hours & Holiday Events
        Winter Schedule (December, January, and February) is Friday and Saturday from 1-5:00 PM and 1:30-5:00 PM on Sunday. This is “Carrousel Only” in Winter except for special holiday hours if the weather permits for the Rotary Train. Train reopens with Spring Schedule in March.

South Mountains State Park Programs

Child & Adult Care Food Program
        Cleveland Child Development Center announces the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Agriculture funded Child and Adult Care Food Program. The same meals will be available at no separate charge to enrolled participants. Children who are TANF recipients or who are members of food stamp or FDPIR households or are Head Start participants are automatically eligible to receive free meal benefits. Adult participants who are members of food stamp FDPIR households or who are SSI or Medicaid participants are automatically eligible to receive free benefits. Relay For Life
        We will have a Relay for Life float in the Shelby Christmas parade. We want to invite any cancer survivors who are interested to ride on the float. Relay for Life supporters are also welcome to participate by riding or walking with the float. Anyone interested should contact Lucille Holland at 704-300-6781.
        Crest High School Relay for Life Team – Saturday, December 11th – 9 am - 12 pm at Crest High Gym. A variety of wrapping paper, bows, and ribbons will be available. Bring presents to Ed Peeler Gymnasium at Crest High School. Donations will be accepted for our service.
New Support Group for Depression and Bipolar Disorder
        Now people living with depression or bipolar disorder will have a new place to find hope, help and support. The local chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) will host regular, confidential, peer-led, self-help support group meetings on Tuesdays from 6:30 – 8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Shelby. DBSA support groups are open to anyone who is diagnosed with a mood disorder, has a family member or friend who is diagnosed, or who thinks they might have depression or bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression). DBSA support groups are not run by professionals, but instead offer peer-to-peer support which is an important component of recovery from mental illness for many people. DBSA is the nation’s leading patient-directed organization focusing on the most prevalent mental illnesses – depression and bipolar disorder. The organization has over 400 independent local chapters that operate over 1000 self-help support groups around the United States. Cleveland County Arts Council
        12/27 – Saturday – Roots Music Film Night – 6:00 pm at the Don Gibson Theatre. The Cleveland County Arts Council & Destination Cleveland County are excited to offer three great films in one evening in the Don Gibson Theatre. These films have all been award winners at the Real to Real International Film Festival and have a roots music connection. Fallston Christmas Parade & Light Up The Town
        The Fallston Christmas Parade will be Saturday, December 11th at 2:00 pm. Line up at 1:30 pm at Fallston Elementary School. Also: Fallston Annual “Light Up the Town” will be held between December 13th thru 17th. Casar Christmas Parade

Carolina Christmas/Charlotte Motor Speedway!
        Come join Rutherfordton Senior Center and Shelby City Park for a trip you will not forget: Monday, December 13th. The cost is $22.00/ this includes Roundtrip Transportation with Discovery Group Tours, Peppermint Forest Christmas Shop, Concord Mills, Free time for dinner (on your own) and Admission to the Carolina Christmas at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
