Shine a Light on the Fight Against Cancer - During the Relay For Life Cermony, votive candles are lit inside of personalized bags to shine a light on the fight against cancer. The power of this ceremony lies in providing an opportunity for people to share their grief and find hope. During the Luminaria Ceremony, candles and torches brighten the way for Relay For Life walkers through the night. In the soft glow of candlelight, we reflect on the courage and strength of all who are affected by cancer. Early Bird Opportunity: order torches by March meeting and have the matching picture on the ten bags that come with the torch.
Broad River Genealogical Society
Genealogy DAR/SAR Workshop, Saturday, February 21, 2015, 10:00am - 2:00pm. The Cleveland Memorial Library will provide up to 8 computers so bring your own laptop. Limited seating available so we ask that you pre-register at the front desk with Cleveland County Memorial Library. Don't forget any previous notes, family tree information and DAR/SAR application information you may need for your search. Bring bag lunch and the Cleveland County Library will provide tea and water. Cleveland Lincoln County Rose Society
Cleveland Lincoln County Rose Society will have a meeting Sunday, February 22, 2015, at 2:30pm, at the Cleveland Agricultural Office, 130 S. Post Road, Shelby, NC, next to Food Lion. Fred Wright will give a slide program showing his 35+ new roses he has hybridized. These roses are available on line at K & M Nurseries in Mississippi. Beverly Davis from the Greenville Rose Society will share her tips for "Raising Roses in Pots". Everyone can learn how to grow a few roses this way on their deck or patio. Refreshments will be served and visitors are always welcome.

Gardner-Webb University's Theatre Arts Department and the School of Performing and Visual Arts is proud to present: The Music Man February 25 - February 28, 2015, 7:30pm nightly. March 1, 2015, 2:30pm. Dover Theatre, Gardner-Webb University Boiling Springs, NC. Five time Tony Award winning musical, The Music Man is set in 1912 in River City, Iowa where con man Harold Hill poses as a boys' band organizer and leader. He sells band instruments and uniforms to the naïve townsfolk, promising to train the members of the new band. But Harold is no musician and plans to skip town without giving any music lessons. Hospice Cleveland County
Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC, will hold their Annual Community Fundraiser "Hearts For Hospice" 2015. Project dates: now until: February 28, 2015. Turn in money on or before March 9, 2015. 25 Hearts per Pack. For a $1 donation (or more) a heart can be purchased to honor someone living or deceased. This project was designed to allow the community to make an affordable donation to Hospice as well as honor a friend, family, your pet, your best friend, aunt, uncle, teacher, etc. Great project for Church Youth, Mission Groups, Community Organizations, Sunday Classes, Families, individuals, etc. Plaques will be given to whoever raises the most money, and has the most creative heart design. Cleveland County Schools Preschool Screening
Screening for the 2015-2016 preschool classes will be: March 16-20, 2015 (no make-up screening will be offered). The location will be at Office of School Readiness, 308 W. Marion Street, Building B, Shelby, NC 28150 (location of old Shelby Middle School, small building near tennis courts. Parking is in back). This is for children who live in Cleveland County and will be 4 years old by August 31, 2015. Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am - 12:00pm at the Lincoln Co. Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen St., Lincolnton. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting, visitors and new members are always welcome. Kiwanis Club of Shelby is a group of professionals who are involved in the community and looking to change Cleveland County, one child at a time. This fundraising and project oriented club meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at noon at Smoke on the Square - Private Dining room, 5 East Marion Street, Shelby, NC; or the 2nd Thursday evening of every month at 5:30pm at Dragonfly Wine Market, 101 West Warren Street, Shelby, NC. One evening social a month at area restaurants. Membership dues are $40 per quarter plus $60 for meals per quarter if you attend lunch meetings.
