   Bingo Each Monday Night (except holidays). Doors open at 5:30 (no admittance after 7:00pm). Jackpot up to $500.00 – Public invited 12 years old and up.

4th Friday Night Dance Theme - Mardi Gras - For seniors 55 and above.  COA/Senior Center, 100 T.R. Harris Dr., Shelby. Friday, February 25, 2011, 7:00-10:00 pm.  Music will be provided by Sixteenth Avenue Band. Mardi Gras costumes and masks are always welcome but are not required. Cost: $5.00 per person.
Autism Awareness Group Meetings

Piecemakers Quilt Guild, Lincoln Co.
        Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Lincoln Co. Senior Center, Room 319, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen St., Lincolnton. Members also meet the third Wed. of each month 9 a.m.-3 p.m. to work on our community projects.
Cleveland County Memorial Library

The Library Book Club meets the 2nd  Thursday of the month from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm in the Conference Room at Cleveland County Memorial Library.  All are invited.
Beginning Computer Classes are being offered this month at Cleveland County Memorial Library.  They will be on  Feb. 24, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm and Feb. 25, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm.  Call 704-487-9069 ext 0 to sign up for one of the classes.

Girls Fast-Pitch Softball Sign Ups
        Shelby Parks & Recreation will hold their 2011 Girls Fast-Pitch Softball Sign-Ups for ages 6-14 from now through Friday, March 11. Sign-up times will be 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. All league ages are as of January 1, 2011: Ages 8 & under; 10 & under;
12 & under; 14 & under. At sign-up time, you must have a copy of

your birth certificate and a parent or guardian present. Fees are $22.00 for city residents and $37.00 for all others. For more information call David Fisher at 704-484-6811.

2011 Baseball  & T-Ball Sign-Ups
   Sign-ups for baseball (leagues 8-17 years) will be held now through Friday-April 1st. Sign-up hours are 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Mondays-Friday. Special sign-up day will be Saturday, March 26th from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sign-ups include Pee Wee Baseball (8-10 yrs), Little Tar Heel Baseball (11 & 12 yrs), Junior Tar Heel Baseball (13 & 14 yrs) and Senior Tar Heel Baseball (15-17 yrs). League ages are as of May 1st, 2011.  When signing-up, a player must have a parent or guardian present and a copy of their birth certificate, if they did not play in the league last year. A $22 registration fee if player lives inside the city limits of Shelby or a $37 registration fee for all others is also required at sign-up. Both new and returning players must sign-up in order to be eligible to participate! Players involved with AAU or USSSA are welcome to register and play with City Park Leagues. T-Ball sign-ups (ages 5, 6 & 7 years) will be held Monday, April 4th through Friday, May 6th. League ages and registration requirements are the same as those above. Cleveland County Preschool Screenings
        Cleveland County Schools Preschool Screenings for the 2011-2012 preschool programs will be February  24 and 25. No makeup screenings will be offered. The screenings will be held at the Office of School Readiness, 124 South Post Road, Shelby, NC 28152 (Beside the Food Lion, across from CCC). Children who live in Cleveland County and who will be 4 years old by August 31, 2011. Screenings are provided by appointment only.
Special Olympics Of CC Annual Spring Track And Field Day
        Special Olympics Cleveland county will hold its annual Spring Track and Field Day on Saturday, May 14, 2011 on the campus of Shelby High School. Any possible athletes interested in participating should call Pat McDonald at 704-487-9941 before March 1, 2011. Athletes’ medicals are due on March 18, 2011. Time trials are due on April 13, 2011. Anyone interested in volunteering needs to call Keila Parker at 704-487-9941 by March 18, 2011.
Relay For Life Bake Sale & Yard Sale
        Cleveland Pines Nursing Center (1404 N. Lafayette St., Shelby) will hold a Bake Sale & Yard Sale for  Relay For Life on March 4, 2011, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in the activity room. GSCT To Hold Auditions For
 “Welcome To Mitford”
GSCT Announces Auditions Greater Shelby Community Theatre will hold auditions for “Welcome to Mitford”, a play based on the popular book series by Jan Karon. The play is written by Bob Inman. Auditions will be held in the basement of the Arts Council on Washington St. on the square in Shelby. Auditions will be March 4 and 5 from 7-9pm and March 6 from 2-5pm. You will be asked to read from the script.There are roles for 13 men, 8 women, 1 teen boy, and 1 child. Performance dates are April 29, 30 and May 1, 6,7,and 8. Spring Excursions at the Carrousel
& Train
        Shelby City Park is offering six days in March for school groups to ride the Carrousel and/or the Rotary Train for free. No ticket or operator fee for groups who make a reservation during these days and times. The dates are March 8-10 and 22-24, the second and fourth weeks of March on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Call now to reserve a time that will work for you. You must reserve a group time one week in advance. Space is limited. This is to thank school and other groups for their patronage during the year. Schools, day cares or other groups may call the Shelby City Park Office at 704-484-6811 to reserve a time to come. For other dates other than our regular scheduled operating hours, you may set up a time to come and pay a $20.00 operating fee for each ride plus 50¢ per ride.
Greater Shelby Community Theatre
        The Greater Shelby Community Theatre will present “HATS the Musical” at Keeter Auditorium in the Cleveland Community College campus. With music written by Pam Tillis and Kathie Lee Gifford, this production promises to be a fun-filled evening for women over 50 and their friends and families. Production dates are March 11, 12, 18 & 19 at 7:30pm and March 13 & 20 at 2:30pm. Discount presale tickets are available at Badcock & More, Max Hamrick Ins., Arnold’s Jewelers, Neal Senior Center and the Arts Council. Sell-out crowds are expected, so upon ticket purchase, please call 704-480-8495 to reserve seating. Tickets will be available at the door ($10 senior/student, $12 adult), but seating is not guaranteed without reservation. Dollars For Dana Fundraiser
        Dollars for Dana will be held on March 12th, 2011 From 11am-3pm at Challenger III Picnic area. This fundraiser is to help Dana Hare’s Family. All you can eat BBQ is available for $10, which includes drink, chips and dessert. There will be live entertainment, a silent auction, raffles, cornhole tournament, games for the kids, cotton candy, candy apples, and much more. Kids 5 and under eat for $3. We will also have hotdogs. Dana works at Farm Bureau in Shelby. She has been in three local hospitals and seen numerous doctors in three counties since Nov. 12; however, she has not been given a diagnosis. Dana has some symptoms, similar to multiple sclerosis, but all tests came back negative. She has been referred to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida for further testing to find out what is wrong. She is a wife and mother to two young girls. With the mounting medical bills and traveling expenses back and forth to Jacksonville, Florida, this family could use your help. Hospice Cleveland County Events
   “Memory Bear Workshop” – Participants will have the opportunity to make a teddy bear out of a loved one’s shirt or other article of clothing. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult..         “Camp Mostly Smiles” – This is a one-day retreat for children ages 6 - 16 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Participants will have the opportunity to express their grief through writing, crafts, play activities and group discussions. Professionals who are trained in grief and loss will facilitate the retreat.. Please RSVP to ext. 166 if you plan to attend. Hospice 18th Annual Living With Grief Teleconference
  Hospice Foundation of America’s will hold the 18th Annual Living With Grief Teleconference: “Spirituality and End-of-Life Care” on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, 1:30pm – 4:00pm in the Hospice Cleveland County Conference Room. This year Hospice Foundation of America’s 18th Annual Living With Grief Teleconference focuses on “Spirituality and End-of-Life Care.” The teleconference will discuss the differences and relationship between spirituality and religion, while also addressing spirituality during illness, death and grief; spiritual assessment and empowerment, and life review.The program will be moderated by Frank Sesno, Director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at the George Washington University. Gaston County Quiltmaker’s Club Quilt Show
        The Gaston County Extension & Community Association (ECA) Quiltmaker’s Club is sponsoring their bi-annual Quilt Show, April 30, 2011 from 9:00am until 4pm. The event will be held at the Citizens Resource Center located at 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Hwy. in Dallas, NC. Cost is $4.00; children 10 and under free. Parking is free.
