   4th Friday Night Dance Theme - Irish Eyes Are Smiling  - For seniors, 55 and above. Friday, March 25, 2011, 7:00-10:00 p.m. Music will be provided by Sixteenth Avenue Band. Cost is $5.00 per person.
  Covered Dish  - Friday, March 25, 2011, 11:30 am-1:00 pm. Everyone is invited to attend. Bring your favorite dish and join in all the fun. Everyone must bring something to share. No takeouts. Donations will be accepted and are appreciated to cover cost of tea, plates, cups, etc.

New Support Group For Depression and Bipolar Disorder
Now people living with depression or bipolar disorder will have a new place to find hope, help and support. The local chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) will host regular, confidential, peer-led, self-help support group meetings on Tuesdays from 6:30 – 8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Shelby. DBSA support groups are open to anyone who is diagnosed with a mood disorder, has a family member or friend who is diagnosed, or who thinks they might have depression or bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression). DBSA support groups are not run by professionals, but instead offer peer-to-peer support which is an important component of recovery from mental illness for many people. DBSA is the nation’s leading patient-directed organization focusing on the most prevalent mental illnesses – depression and bipolar disorder. The organization has over 400 independent local chapters that operate over 1000 self-help support groups around the United States. Piecemakers Quilt Guild, Lincoln Co.
        Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Lincoln Co. Senior Center, Room 319, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen St., Lincolnton. Members also meet the third Wed. of each month 9 a.m.-3 p.m. to work on our community projects.
Habitat For Humanity Cleveland County
        Habitat is now accepting applications for a Habitat Home.  Applicants must currently live in sub-standard housing, have sufficient income to pay for an interest-free mortgage,  live in Cleveland County for the past 12 months, and contribute sweat equity.  Call Shelby Gettys at 704-482-6200 to request an application or pick one up at the Habitat ReStore, 323 W. Respite Services Available
        ComServ, Inc. operates a licensed respite care program at a home in Shelby, NC. This program serves children and adults with intellectual/development disabilities. We accept CAP-DD funding and state IPRS funding. Center-based respite is available on an hourly or overnight basis. This program is for families or care providers from the western region of NC. Cleveland County Library News
The Library Book Club meets the 2nd  Thursday of the month from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm in the Conference Room at Cleveland County Memorial Library.  All are invited.
Genealogy Computer Classes are being offered this month at Cleveland County Memorial Library by members of the Broad River Genealogical Society in conjunction with the library.  There will be three classes:  Getting Started, What You Need To Do First, taught by Debby McIntyre, Thursday, March 24, 6pm – 8pm; Heritage Quest taught by Heather Robbins, Friday, March 25, 10am – 12pm; Ancestry.com Library Edition taught by Ann Wright, Saturday, March 26, 10am – 12pm.  Call the library at 704-487-9069 ext 0 to sign up as space is limited. Disabled Amercan Veterans - Chapter 18
        The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 18, meets the first and third Saturdays of every month at 1138 E. Marion St., Shelby,  to assist veterans. Coffee and doughnuts will be available for veterans. A claims officer will be available. DAV, 704-600-6411.

2011 Baseball  & T-Ball Sign-Ups
   Sign-ups for baseball (leagues 8-17 years) will be held now through Friday-April 1st. Sign-up hours are 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Mondays-Friday. Special sign-up day will be Saturday, March 26th from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sign-ups include Pee Wee Baseball (8-10 yrs), Little Tar Heel Baseball (11 & 12 yrs), Junior Tar Heel Baseball (13 & 14 yrs) and Senior Tar Heel Baseball (15-17 yrs). League ages are as of May 1st, 2011.  When signing-up, a player must have a parent or guardian present and a copy of their birth certificate, if they did not play in the league last year. A $22 registration fee if player
 lives inside the city limits of Shelby or a $37 registration fee for all

 others is also required at sign-up. Both new and returning players must sign-up in order to be eligible to participate! Players involved with AAU or USSSA are welcome to register and play with City Park Leagues. T-Ball sign-ups (ages 5, 6 & 7 years) will be held Monday,

   The Cleveland County EXTENSION COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show is Friday, March 25, 2011, to be held at the Extension Center, 130 South Post Road, Shelby, N. Cleveland/Lincoln County Rose Society
        The Cleveland/Lincoln County Rose Society will meet Saturday, March 26, 10 AM to work on their community service project. The proposed rose garden will be at the Charles R. Jonas Library, 306 W. Main St., Lincolnton, NC. Spring is the time to begin thinking about amending the soil for a rose bed. This rose garden will be planted on April 30th. Rose society members are reminded to bring garden tools and wear your work clothes. If you are interested in learning how to prepare a rose bed, amend the soil and grow roses you are welcome to attend. Consulting Rosarians will be available to answer your questions. Wrestling Benefit For Timmy Baucom
        A Wrestling Benefit will be held for Timmy Baucom on Saturday, March 26, at the National Guard Armory, 300 Phifer Rd., Kings Mountain. Featured will be The New Millennium Championship Wrestlers. Bell time is 7:00 p.m. Admission: Adults $9.00; Children, ages 6 to 10 $5.00. This includes hot dogs, chips and drink. Children 5 and under is Free. Timmy is a 14 year old who was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma, a form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. All proceeds will go for the family’s medical expenses.

Poor Man’s Lunch To Benefit Relay For Life
        The Blue Oval Ford Club is cruising for a cause and you’re invited to eat lunch with us. Friday, April 1, 2011 from 11:00am to 2:00pm. Cleveland Regional Medical Center in the T.R. American Cancer Society Bark For Life
        The Cleveland County American Cancer Society will sponsor  “Bark For Life” on April 2, 2011, 1:00 pm-4:00 pm. Registration starts at 12:00 pm.  This event is sponsored by the Warriors of Hope team and will be held at Piedmont Park in Lawndale, NC.  You are invited to participate in the 1 mile walk with your canine beast friend! This is an enjoyable event which provides valuable contributions to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and offers a testament to the care and love shared between dogs and families. Pinto Bean Supper Fundraiser
        Lawndale Historical Society and the Lawndale Fire Department will be having a Pinto Bean Supper on Monday, April 4, at 5 pm at the Lawndale Community Center. Proceeds from the supper go toward the restoration project for the Fire Departments 1960 fire truck.  They will be serving pintos, homemade livermush, slaw, onions, cornbread, dessert, and drink. $6 per person or a family of more than 4 eats for $25.  Carryouts are available. Hospice 18th Annual Living With Grief Teleconference
  Hospice Foundation of America’s will hold the 18th Annual Living With Grief Teleconference: “Spirituality and End-of-Life Care” on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, 1:30pm – 4:00pm in the Hospice Cleveland County Conference Room. This year Hospice Foundation of America’s 18th Annual Living With Grief Teleconference focuses on “Spirituality and End-of-Life Care.” The teleconference will discuss the differences and relationship between spirituality and religion, while also addressing spirituality during illness, death and grief; spiritual assessment and empowerment, and life review.The program will be moderated by Frank Sesno, Director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at the George Washington University. Fallston Elementary 2nd Annual Spring Carnival
        Fallston Elementary School will hold their 2nd Annual Spring Carnival on Thursday, April 14, 2011, 5:00-8:30 pm.  Pre-sell tickets are available at Fallston Elementary School, Stagecoach Hardware & Kutin-Up for $10. Tickets will be sold for $15 at the door. Tickets are for games, unlimited rides, and inflatables. Live  DJ, dancing and fun. Also selling great food, cotton candy, candy apples, etc. Dairy Queen trailer will be there. Fat & Sassy will be there. Come out and support the school and have loads of fun. Lincolnton Lions Club Seeking Applicants For Fourteenth Annual College Scholarships
        The Lincolnton Lions Club is seeking applicants for their Fourteenth Annual College Scholarships. They are calling all graduating seniors of the Class of 2011 from East, Lincolnton, North and West Lincoln High Schools. They will be awarding two $500 county-wide competitive college scholarships. Complete a 2011 Lions Club Sholarship application with a head and shoulders photograph, write an original essay on Volunteerism and return to your high school guidance counselor or a Lincolnton Lions Club member by Friday, April 22, 2011. You must be a legal US citizen, legal resident of Lincoln County and a graduating senior at East, Lincolnton, North or West Lincoln High Schools. Relay For Life Golf Tournament
        Cleveland Regional Rehab will hold their 6th Annual Golf Tournament for a Cure fundraiser on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Deebrook Golf Club. Lunch begins at noon. Shotgun start is at 1:00 p.m. Cost: $75 donation per person or $300 for foursome. Lunch is included. Donations are tax deductibele. Gaston County Quiltmaker’s Club Quilt Show
        The Gaston County Extension & Community Association (ECA) Quiltmaker’s Club is sponsoring their bi-annual Quilt Show, April 30, 2011 from 9:00am until 4pm. Hospice Cleveland County Events
        “Camp Mostly Smiles” – This is a one-day retreat for children ages 6 - 16 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Participants will have the opportunity to express their grief through writing, crafts, play activities and group discussions. Professionals who are trained in grief and loss will facilitate the retreat.. Please RSVP to ext. 166 if you plan to attend. Eastern Star Fundraiser
        Eastern Star will hold a BBQ Chicken fundraiser at Fallston Masonic Lodge #356 on Saturday, May 21, 2011, serving from 11 am-6 pm. $7.00 plate. Eat-in or carry out. Walk-ins welcome. The menu will consist of 1/2 chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, roll, dessert and tea. This is to benefit Masonic charities.
