What: Workshop for the Daughters of the American Revolution and Sons of the American Revolution researchers

Where: Cleveland County Memorial Library, 104 Howie Dr, Shelby, NC, in the Plaster meeting room of the library.
More Info: Sponsored by the Cleveland County Memorial Library. Participants should bring a laptop; the library will provide up to eight computers. Pre-registration with library staff is required because of limited seating available. Bring any previous notes, family tree information and any DAR/SAR application information. Light refreshments, tea and water will be provided. Come join Dolores Ashworth with the Benjamin Cleveland Chapter and Lydia Hamrick, registrar, along with Donna Bridges with Cleveland County Memorial Library and DAR/SAR representatives Rebecca Higgins and Greg Payseur. Also to be represented are Colonel Frederick Hambright and Flint Hill Chapters.

What: South Mountain State Park Environmental Programs
When: Tuesday, January 5, 2019 - "First Hike". Start the New Year with some fresh air! This hike includes the 80 ft. High Shoals waterfall. This moderate 2.75-mile hike will last approximately 1.5 hours. Please bring water, appropriate clothing and footwear. Meet at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 10:00 am. Saturday, January 5, 12, 19, 27 - "Hug-A-Tree". The National Association for Search & Rescue (NASAR) is committed to reducing the number of children who become lost each year by teaching children basic techniques to aid in their survival is they do become lost. Many people become disoriented and lose their way while hiking and camping in parks, forests and wilderness areas. Join a park volunteer at the Visitor Center at 1:00 pm to learn these basic techniques. Saturday, January 19, "Wintergreen Hike". Enjoy a leisurely walk along the Hemlock Nature Trail, and learn about some of the many plant species that stay green all year long. Meet at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm for this easy one mile walk. Sunday, January 6, 13, 20 & 27, "Fly Fishing 101". Get Hooked! Join angler Jeff Newton at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm for an introductory class on fly fishing. Please bring all personal equipment available. Classes may vary based on interest and skill level of the participants. North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission fishing regulations still apply.
