Neighborhood Calendar July 24, 2014
Cherryville Little Theatre, Disney’s Aladdin, Jr.
   Cherryville Little Theatre is excited to announce the stage production of Disney’s Aladdin, Jr. There will be two evening performances schedule for Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26, 7:00pm. Two are two matinee performances on Saturday, July 26, 2:00pm and Sunday, July 27, 3:00pm. Tickets are $6 for students/seniors citizens and $8 for adults. Doors open 45 minutes prior to performances for ticket purchase or you may pre-buy tickets in the lobby of CLT from 1:00-3:00pm, Monday-Thursday, July 21 - July 24. Join them in the city of Agrabah, where you will see the fantastic tale of the street rat who became a prince!
Greater Shelby Community Theatre
        Greater Shelby Community Theatre presents the comedy Leading Ladies. The play tells of two down on their luck English actors who are performing Shakespeare at a Moose Lodge in Pennsylvania. They learn that a rich old woman is about to die, leaving a fortune to a niece and two long lost  English nephews. They decide to impersonate the nephews and collect their share, but discover that the missing relatives are actually females. Then one of the two actors falls for the old woman’s niece, who is engaged to a local minister! Showtime is 7:30pm, Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26, and 2:30pm, Sunday, July 27. Performances will be held at Keeter Auditorium, Cleveland Community College in Shelby.
Lost Playwrights, Hendersonville
        Lost Playwrights of Western North Carolina will meet Kaplan Auditorium on Saturday, July 26, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in the auditorium of Henderson County Library, 301 North Washington Street, Hendersonville, NC. All persons interested in any aspect of theatre or creative writing are invited. There are no dues.
Burns High Boys Basketball Camp
        The Burns High Basketball Booster Club will be hosting a boy’s basketball camp on July 28, 29, and 30 from 8:00am to 12:00pm at Burns High School. All rising 3rd through rising 9th graders are encouraged to attend. The cost will be $60. All checks and money orders should be made payable to the Burns Basketball Booster Club. Rhema Outreach Ministry, Kings Mountain
        Rhema Outreach Ministry, an approved Second Harvest Food Bank Agency, 624 E. King Street, Kings Mountain, NC 28086, will be open to the Community, Tuesday, July 29 between 2:00-7:00pm for your clothing, shoes, houseware and food item needs based upon income and household size. Please provide proof of income if you have food stamps please bring ID and verification card.
Hospice Cleveland County Events
   Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC will have the following events in July and August:
        “Reflections” Support Group - Tuesdays: July 29, and August 5,12, and 19, 5:30pm - 7:00pm, at Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building. This grief sharing group meets for six weeks. No cost and open to anyone who has lost a loved one.
        “Christmas in July” - Thursday, July 24, 5:00pm - 7:00pm, Kings Mountain Hospice House, 321 Kings Mountain Blvd., Kings Mountain, NC or Friday, July 25, 10:00am - noon, Hospice Cleveland County Administration Building. Participants will have the opportunity to make Christmas ornaments in memory of a loved one who has died. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Please call one of our Grief Counselors at 704-487-4677 to register for this event.
        “Hospice Training Class” Monday, August 4 and Tuesday, August 5, 9:00am - 1:0pm or 5:30pm - 9:30pm. Hospice training is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about hospice care and the services provided to our patients in Cleveland and Gaston Counties. This course is free and there is no obligation to volunteer. The classes will be held at Hospice Cleveland County. To get credit for the entire course,  you will need to attend both days at one of the times offered. Hospice Cleveland Copunty offers a number of opportunities for volunteer involvement, including direct contact with patients/families, assisting in the office, or at one of our inpatient/residential facilities.         “Memory Bear Workshop” - Thursday, August 7, 9:00am - noon or 4:00pm - 7:00pm, at Kings Mountain Hospice House, 321 Kings Mountain Blvd., Kings Mountain, NC. Participants will have the opportunity to make a teddy bear out of a loved one’s shirt or other article of clothing. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Space is limited. Upper Cleveland Football and Cheer Signups
   Please mark your calendars!!! Sign up for Upper Cleveland Football and Cheer signups. Signups will be held on Saturday, August 2, 9:00-12:00. They will be held at Piedmont Community Center, Lawndale NC. Sign-up Fee: $75 for Football players; $35 for cheerleaders plus uniform cost. Cash, credit and debit cards accepted. Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care and Health Services
   Are you ready to learn more about Dementia to help your loved one? Join Life Enrichment Center on Tuesday, August 5, 5:30 - 7:00pm, for a three-part video series featuring Teepa Snow, Dementia Expert. A free sitter service is available but must make reservation by August 1. Call 704-739-4858.
        If the time came, could you make a medical decision for your loved one? Join Life Enrichment Center on Tuesday, August 19, 5:30 - 7pm, to discuss Faith Perspectives for Healthcare Decision Making with Len Byers, Director of Spiritual Care and Education for Cleveland County Healthcare System. South Mountain Baptist Association Fun Day
        The South Mountain Baptist Association, 3639 NC Hwy 18 Vale, NC, will be having a Free Family Fun Day August 16, 4:00-8:00pm. Everything will be free! We will give out 300 school supply bags ranging from kindergarten through high school at 5:30.  We will also have a hot dog meal, inflatables, games, face painting, gospel music, pop corn, sno-cones, a clown will be giving out balloons, and will even be giving free hair cuts. Piecemakers Quilt Guild
        Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am - 12:00pm at the Lincoln Co. Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen St., Lincolnton. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting, visitors and new members are always welcome. Life Outreach Food & Clothing Ministry, Kings Mtn.
        Life of Worship Ministries, 403 Cherokee Street, Kings Mountain, NC, will be having a FREE Food Pantry and Clothes Closet for people in need of food and/or clothes. They are able to come once a month the 1st Wednesday thru the 3rd Wednesdays of each month from 11:00am - 1:00pm. They will need to bring their current ID. A Meal will be served every 4th Wednesday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm. This month Hot Dogs with homemade Chili and Slaw, Chip, Pork n Beans, Cake and Lemonade, will be served. Donations accepted of cash/check (any amount) non-perishable foods, household and HBA items as well as clean, new or gently used clothes. Currently really low in men’s summer clothes, jeans and shoes. ALWAYS closed on any 5th Wednesday. Volunteers are always welcome!  For more information you may call 704-884-6703.    


The Piedmont High School Annual Reunion
        The Piedmont High School Annual Reunion is Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Burns Middle School. Registration and a period of socializing begins at 4:00pm. Dinner is served at 5:30pm.  Business session and Musical Program “UNFORGETABLE-A TRIBUTE” follows the dinner. Reservations must be made and prepaid by August 8, 2014.
